Ceramic Coating
Hi Guys. Just had a discussion with Aviva
Currently claiming for rear bumper accident - that they approved. However the car is ceramic coated - it was not list as a modification so they refused that part. Also going forward they now confirm that their underrighters cannot cover any ceramic coating so will continue present cover only but after that they will not insure the car They say wax is OK ! Any comments |

Only experience I've had is someone reversed into my parked car in 2021. All picked up on dashcam, so was able to claim and they also allowed me to send the car off to the 3rd party that did the ceramic coating of the front bumper after the repair / respray was done. |

Late last year I had to have the driver's door mirror replaced and the cover painted and then to my detailer to have it re-coated. It was an insurance claim and the ceramic re-coating was included in the repair estimate by the bodyshop and my insurance company simply paid in full and never questioned the ceramic coating aspect at all.
I'd definitely have a right go at your insurance company over that! |

What nonsense. Insurance companies really don't help themselves do they?
What's next, if you wash your car we won't offer a renewal? I've heard of a few classing PPF as a modification and refusing to pay out (its invisible, unless stealth or the like). I kind of get that though, as PPF is bloody expensive and not an original part. Maybe their algorithms think if your car is PPF'd or ceramic coated you're more likely to drive like a knob. No, it suggests you're more careful and protective of your car, drive properly and don't treat the steering wheel like a piece of furniture or only look ten feet in front of the bonnet, like 90% of tw@ts using the road. Yes, I'm grumpy and tired |

Aviva are very clear on this.
PPF = hard no Ceramic coating = hard no Remap = hard no OP is lucky they didn’t cancel his insurance, actually. https://www.financial-ombudsman.org....RN-4496887.pdf |

When talking over the repair with the bodyshop I mentioned the ceramic coating to which they confirmed they could claim for this. Fortunately the quotation including re-applying the ceramic coating was agreed by Aviva and undertaken with minimal fuss. I wonder if Aviva have recently changed their policy on ceramic coatings or if it depends who you speak with / how the claim is processed? Cheers Martyn |
