G20 gas tank size?
I've looked over auto-data.net and it seems like there are some 2 different tank sizes for the G20. The 330i will have a tank of 59l while the 320d (which at least in theory should be the one sold in the larger volumes) will have a tank of only 40l.
Given that the fuel consumption of the 320d G20 is more or less similar to the one on the 320d F30 this will reduce the range of the 320d with some 300km... To me this sounds like plain wrong... Last edited by agripel; 12-12-2018 at 02:13 AM.. Reason: correct link |

AFAIK it's in order to lower the fuel consumption of the default figure (due to lower weight, I believe those official numbers are with a full tank). It's a bit silly, but others (Mercedes I think?) also play that game.

It's a bit sad if such tricks are used for getting some better figures on paper but they end up affecting the practicality of a car. Every model iteration should be an improvement but at least on the range aspect the G20 seems to be going backwards.

And entirely irrelevant for this forum, therefore. But if anyone gives a shit, M-B, Audi and to a lesser extent Alfa have had to pull the same trick, too. |

According to BMW spec's 40-litres is the standard size tank, the 59-litres tank is an option for the 320d.

For the 320d xDrive the CO2 emissions, as stated by the online configurator on bmw.de, is 118 g/km with or without the enlarged fuel tank.

https://www.bmw.co.uk/pdfs/price-lis..._PriceList.pdf It's a £40 option. The last time BMW charged that for an option was in about 1986. The big tank is standard on the 320d Sport and M Sport, but optional on the SE. I must admit, it's an odd thing to do especially if it makes no different to emissions. Also looks like BMW has been doing this for the last 4-5 years, not that anyone has mentioned it so far. Small tanks are standard and larger tanks fitted as optional extras (always about £40) to various X3s, X1s, X4s and the 2 Tourer. |
