However, both are over-large, over-elongated and bland.

The new 3er does seem to have more non-functional moronic, styling cues...perhaps that’s noteworthy differentiation.

I don't know what they were thinking with these monsterous concave doorhandles. You think by now BMW's Exterior Design Team and suits can come up with something sleeker. Total fail!

we can just pretend the F30 and especially the E60 never happened. we can put them in the Rocky movies after 4, and Terminator movies after 2 pile.

.....

and now... the G20, the long overdue replacement for the e90 after 14 years. Sure looks fresh.

"Although the new G20 3 Series has grown in size compared to its predecessor, Horn explains that efforts were made to keep this increase to a minimal, so as to represent the 3 Series' as a sports sedan and not as a mini-5 Series."

So why did the new 3-series have to grow in size at all? It seems they are compelled to increase the size every generation. The f30 is already plenty big enough!

So it will have sufficient differentiation once the 2 Series Gran Coupe and/or 1 Series sedan arrive in the showroom.

More stringent safety and crash regulations. You want that car to ace all NHTSA, IIHS and Euro NCAP? Crash tests they throw at it? there you have it.

That car has to be heavier and bigger than the previous generation.

I mean for car show guys yes but not for track rats. We're different. You should see the front end you might have a heart attack lol

I do take it off for the street but too lazy. I know it's ridiculous haha

Buuttt...my car has track mods only so it all goes together. Seats, once had a welded half cage, sunroof delete, no carpet, front and rear aero, bbk, coilovers, hood vents, etc. my mods are at least fully functional and 100% used. Not like pedestrian show cars with mods that make the car actually handle worse.

And something to be said about the guy in bike shorts who can pull it off nowhere near a bike

Actually bicycle shorts look ridiculous on a bike, off it, near it, or far.

As a former competitive cyclist I can confirm there are plenty of situations where you'd look like a fool if you're not wearing bicycle shorts.

Been happening since the war. Not just the safety aspect, but people just want more, more, more. They're fatter, too, on the whole.

Yeah it looks NOTHING like G30. They need to stop drinking their own cool aid. If it didnt look like G30, we would be saying it, not them. BMW marketing people.

Thanks for posting this. These two look very similar as an overall package in this video unless you focus on individual design elements.

oh haha true. i mean the end of the start of the e90 i guess. so 14 years between new designs I guess. Since the e90 would have been on the market for 14 years in my alternate universe

The 3 and 5 have looked pretty different to me for at least the last three generations now (see very helpful persons post above with loads of pics) so why make a deal about wanting the new G20 to look different from the G30??

As for them wanting to keep it as compact as possible... well they’ve failed, it’s now over 4.7 metres long... hardly ‘compact’!!
