Upshift "farts" on the 330i?
Hi all,
Firstly, it's nice to meet you all. I've been browsing the forums for a while but decided to create an account today to join in on the fun! I haven't seen much posted about this yet but I wanted to know how one could go about getting the upshift "farts" on the 330i? I have seen videos of the M340i with the sound on stock vehicles but somehow the 330i's have a dip in sound when shifting gears. So far, all the aftermarket exhausts (Stone, Armytrix etc.) just make the car louder but don't get the "farts". Interested to hear your thoughts and ideas on this. |

No! He's talking about the programmed exhaust noises/responses to shifts that BMW engineers into the software.

For a comparison: Here is how a 330i sounds: And here is how the M340i sounds (best I could find at the moment): (The last video actually slows down so you can hear the upshifts in slow-mo ) |

Yup. I’ve heard of innotech. They are popular in Asia. And a few friends have their exhausts on their Mercs and Audis and it sounded real good.

There are those upshift farts again from 0:07! But they aren't there from 0:22 onwards. I wonder if they also included a tune with their exhaust system or if there is a certain criteria that has to be met for that sound to be produced (temperatures etc.)

It is not like for example my 428i F36 that it does. At the end of the video it does not do it because it is a LAUNCH CONTROL, at that moment it does not fart, but that is the same as mine, it optimizes the gear change and stops doing it so as not to waste time between gear changes. |

The car should have upshift noises as of the later updates to the car (I'm on 2019/11) and definitely have it in Sport (and kinda in comfort with M/S).
My exhaust valve acts weird as hell now though, it no longer opens at all in Sport unless I'm in N/R/P. |

After driving intensely on twisty roads, shifting up and down and accelerating harshly for about 15 minutes, I started hearing the fart sounds. I rolled down my window to confirm and yes, they were there! Shifting from 2,8k-4,5k RPM made the sounds and sometimes it made a popping/bang sound when shifting. That was so awesome to hear Higher RPM's didn't usually make the sound (>4,5k RPM) and when I parked for 20 minutes and started again, they were not there (didn't need to drive intensely for 15 minutes again, so can't tell if it would have done it again). I feel like it has something to do with a certain component heating up (e.g. part of the exhaust system) or if the computer adjusts something when it detects intense driving. Not sure what it is but I would like to find out!

Not sure if it is something you have tried or want to do but have you tried modifying the exhaust valve to leave it constantly open?

You need to code Sport + for that. This is what I followed when I coded Sport + on my 2020 330ix M Sport.

With sport+? Yes. If you haven't coded it in, please do. Throttle response is also much better.

It pops and burble more with upshifting and downshifting. The harder you drive the G20 the more it does it. Might also be partly from the M Performance exhaust my 330i has installed. When in regular sport it doesn't have pops and burbles but does in Sport +.

Here in Brazil (same car as the EU ones) the 330i MSport comes with Sport+ from factory. But no Pops while driving. Pops exists only when parked in P and Sport+ selected, if you drive all pops disappear.
I have sent an email to the Bootmod3 guys, who answered me that Bootmod3 as the option to enable the pops and even customize them. I would buy a Bootmod3 license to try it, wouldn't do any tune to the engine, only add the pops to the car, but i am afraid about bricking the DME. Anyone has used the Bootmod3? |

Finally heard some pops while driving (upshifting) in Sport+. It's not very loud, though. You'd need a quiet road and tires to hear it with your windows up. I don't really care for pops/burbles, though. I'd rather the exhaust sound were louder in general (in sport modes).
