I didn't read anything about that. When playing on the configurator I noticed BMW has added an option for the M Sports seat. Don't confuse them with the normal sports seats that were available as well. This is a new seat with integrated headrests, similar to those offered in the X3.

Normal sports seat:

new M Sports seat:

You can get those seats with any engine, BTW - from the 1.5L three-banger 318i to the 330e hybrid to the M340i. Also the diesels in Europe of course.

I also noticed they added the already-known-to-be-coming red break calipers:

Sucks. Wish that had been available in Canada from launch.

I was just reading this yesterday and am hoping these come to the US. This would be the first option I check.

Someone already posted the BMW USA 2021 configurator and it doesn't look like the seats are an option unfortunately. Maybe a EU thing only?

Those should have came stock man; maybe for the facelift they'll offer these stock. Always wondered why we didn't get sportier looking seats in the M340i compared to the S5/C43. The seats helps to convey the nature of the car.

Maybe they will come to the US with the G01 X3 LCI and then with the G20 LCI?

I imagine these will be available in the US eventually but we'll have to see.

Why? Are the seats bad in the G20, are they not wide enough or uncomfortable in any way?

Perfectly comfortable, probably not as supportive for performance driving as you'd expect but plenty fine.

But these new seats look very cool.

Agreed - and I am probably in the minority on this but I think those MSport seats look fussy and less attractive than the regular seats.

Those actually look like the standard seats spotted on the upcoming G80/82/83. Interesting. I can't imagine BMW would do actually do that there must be some differences i can't see.

They honestly don't look that different from standard seats. Larger shoulder area, redesigned headrest, and different pattern, but basic bolsters look the same. We'll have to see IRL though. Other than vernasca leather being kinda crappy, I like the standard seats well enough.

Assuming they are the same ones you can already get in the X3 G01 (at least in Germany you were able to get them in the G01 since launch), I already sat in them and compared to the normal sports seats there are some differences:
  • much better side support on the bottom of the seat as well as the side of the seat
  • haven't measured it, but at least it feels like you can make the sides tighter than the normal sports seats
  • better shoulder support
  • feels like they offer better head support (headrest angled more foreward), but not sure on that one when looking at the pictures
  • and of course, they look better

Has BMW NA ever explained why they hate the US so much? They hold back so many of the good options.

It's partly because the US is primarily a build-to-stock market. Usually, the dealer specs and buys the car and then you buy the car from the dealer's lot. You have a couple packages and a handful of options. In Europe, it is primarily build-to-order. You can tell them exactly which options you want and you pay when you order the car. Just go to the German configurator. For the 3 Series, there are over sixty options you can get in addition to wheels/colors. More interior/exterior colors as well. This allows for some funny configurations. Before the G30 LCI, for example, you were able to order that car without automatic climate control, IIRC.

In the US, if you order a car in a unique spec (e.g. that green exterior/red interior M8 on the front page a couple days ago), the dealer has the risk of you not buying the car in the end. So they tend not to offer options that only a minority of people want. In some cases, the dealer may be able to order the parts and retrofit them. It will be more expensive, of course.

When you say "pay", I presume you mean you pay a small deposit only? I've never paid anything other than a £500/€600 deposit when ordering a new BMW/Audi or whatever. The balance I pay just before collection.

Yeah, not the full amount. But it's not 600€, but 15% of the list price. If you don't buy the car in the end, they will usually keep the deposit.

15% for a standard 3 series would be about €10k to put it into perspective.
