I'm so embarrassed for BMW. This is way worse than I expected. However, it's strange to me that the Audi grill is also big but somehow looks good to me. Is it just because I'm not used to it or is the double massive grill just hideous?

I don't think the problem is the size. The problem is the shape.

Somebody needs to put metal buckets over the design team's heads and give them a good hard whack with a broom handle. First they pooched the ridiculously overpriced and boring-styled 8 series, and now this. Are they going to ruin the 3 series next??

Probably, I haven't googled to see. Given this model isn't out until the fall, if nothing available now, I would hazard a guess there will be in 5 months

You'd probably be more likely to get pulled over for having that on the front of the car than for having no plate there.

Side note - after my first ED I was waiting for my custom plates to come in which were the same numbers as my ED plates so I drove around (the US) with my Euro plates on for a month with the paper the DMV sends you in the window as I was supposed to have. Must not have been in front of a cop the whole month.

Same here. Drove around the US for the full 90 days with just ED plates on the front and rear of my car. Never once had an issue.

I've also never had an issue (in CA) with my lack of front plate for 6 years now. *knock on wood*

It actually looks pretty good without the front plate.

Without the plate, I don't love it. With the plate, I want to melt it down to liquid metal and create something else.

It would be something different if, just imagine, Germany would not require front license plates. Then, the owners in other countries that require those front license plates are just unlucky. But at least BMW could say, well here we do not need them and that's why we designed it like this.

But yeah this is not the case and therefore I just cannot understand what they were thinking. Did they just looked at the car without the plates???
I understand where you're coming from, but BMW builds more cars in the US than any other country...they should be considering us.
BMW builds a lot of cars in NC, but isn't China BMW's biggest market now?

I don't know but I am amused to say the least. I see a lot of Infiniti from the front and the side.

Many brands have large grilles that look good, but they built the entire design philosophy taking into account those grilles, like Audi did with the Nuvolari concept in 2003 which had the big grille, then it was only careful evolution for many years.

BMW designer team is simply laughable at this time. They just can't pass a certain childish level. I mean, to slap a big grille on an existing design like the 7-series or the X5, without rethinking the entire design around that crucial change, it's just incredibly childish.

Wow, really does not look great without a plate. And also does not look good with the US plate. Definitely disappointing. And I was actually digging the design with the euro plate. Great design shouldn't have asterisks.

Thanks for doing the rendering. I have a few totally picky suggestions:

Florida actually doesnt require front plates, choose one that does (I warned you that they were picky)

Can you add a plate holder like most us buyers opt for

Can you show one with the plate offset downward from center, my feeling is that the brackets may be offset down

Thanks for considering
