Trunk Operation:

I have the power trunk feature. Over the weekend, I discovered that when you push the trunk button located on driver's door and when the trunk is open, it power closes the trunk.

I have coded my car to close trunk via key fob but I did not know it also did it via regular button as well.

That I can turn the AC off just by pressing the fan speed button right in the middle to lower it and finally turn it off. I don’t need to go to the AC menu to do that. It’s easier to keep pressing it till it turns off since I won’t have to take my eyes off the road to do that. It’s probably easier to just ask your car to turn it off but yes.

Surely that turns of the whole ventilation system, not just the AC compressor?

I use Pandora pretty exclusively for music in the car, I'm happy that the apple play interface is better than the Pandora 'app' in the F32 I had.

I noticed that there FOUR ways to change the song in the car (with apple play)
  1. Steering wheel
  2. Dashboard
  3. Touch Screen
  4. Gesture Control

If you don't completely close the door, the light strip pulses orange to let you know its not closed.

Yes it does. Many people miss the OFF button in the G20. I just realised it was there all along

Mine doesn’t let you drive unless the doors are properly closed. It puts itself in park even if I put it in D and try to back up slowly. So you know the door is open

I assumed the point of that was to show a pulsing orange light to discourage people from crashing into your open door.

Not sure if this was mentioned previously, but holding down the alarm button on the key for around 1 second turns on the lights of the car. It acts like an exterior light button on the key, cool!

I think that only applies if you don't have the seatbelt on.
Even my old F31 did the same thing.
I can reverse slowly with the door open and no seatbelt as long as I have one foot on the brake but it stops as soon as I release the pedal

I don’t remember if I had the seatbelt on or not since I was backing up in my garage and since there was work going on, they had left their tools and ladders around and I wanted to be careful not to hit it. Im guessing I didn’t have it on. Every time I tried to back up slowly with my foot on the brake, the car would roll for a second and then go to P.
I don’t think I have tried it with the belt on.

Coming to think of it, I think it’s the same in our F25. Our Audis let us roll slowly though since I’ve done the same in the SQ5 and it didn’t pop into P.

It is.

There's a warning in the instrument display if your door is open, and it also "dings". The pulsing red ambient light in the door is if you open the door with the engine running to warn people passing you the door is open.

Do you mean the button with the diamond on? By default that starts the standing air-con unless you've changed it? Or am I missing something?

I think different markets have different buttons on the key. In the US, we get an alarm button rather than the diamond button.

Don't know if this has been mentioned, but the windshield wipers spray from the wipers itself, not like f30 where it sprayed from bottom and onto the roof. Pretty smart way to stop unnecessary overspray and making the roof dirty.

Also, I don't have the executive or technology package, but the cars start/stop function is pretty smart. If you're behind a car at a red light and the light goes green your car turns on when the car in front of you moves even with your foot on the brake.

Thought these are some pretty cool little features.

There's a 5th... Using the roller on the wheel brings the option to skip a song on the heads up display

If you go into your car settings, status, tpms not only will it tell you the psi of each tire, it will also tell you the temperature as well. I'm guessing that is the temperature of the air inside the tire and not the rubber itself, but still pretty neat since I know when my tires have warmed up and I can push it a little harder

That the passenger side mirror doesn't auto-dim anymore like in pre 2017 models. Only the rear view and drivers side dim now... no idea why but it's infuriating.

Oh do you, must be regional then. I was searching my manual to see if there was a panic alarm but no mention of it for my car.

Yes! And the fact that the recommended pressure adjusts for temperature so you don't have to wait for the tyres to be cold to do a proper check.

I believe it's because it was perceived to make it harder to see objects down the passenger side of the car when it dimmed. I'm not sure if this was of BMW's own volition or a regulation was created to force them and other manufacturers to do it.

I can't find any new regulation that prevents the the passenger side mirror from dimming, so I'm assuming it's a voluntary engineering decision, in the name of safety.

However, I recently sat in a new $120,000 Mercedes S550, with every single option, even a fridge in the trunk and I had notice that even in that vehicle, the passenger side mirror also does not dim, so its anyone's guess what's the true reason.. 🤷🏻..
