I was deciding between Tanzanite and Dravit. I went with Tanzanite. While I was waiting the dealership got in BOTH colors on the 340 and had them parked out front in the sun right next to each other. After getting to see them in person, together, outside... TANZANITE was the right choice and it was not even close. That being said.... color is completely subjective, so you need to find each color in the flesh and make your own decision. Don't choose based on a photo. The cars look quite different. Do your homework. |

That is strange. I actually had to check the BMW site to see if it is was still offered. Does anybody have one?

It is a good vid that shows the car driving in different light... shadows, bright sunlight. Tanzanite is a BLUE, not a black with blue metallic like a carbon black or Jerez black. (love Carbon black) Tanzanite looks super rich and liquid in the shade or at dusk and pops brilliantly in the sun. Awesome color. Watch the vid, let us know your thoughts. Thanks for the video reference! TB is no doubt a great colour. I loved Carbon Black on my X3 M40i, and think it would be perfect on the M340i. Hopefully I can see the TB live sometime soon.

Another Portimao here. I was going to go with Tanzanite; while it certainly looks special in the right light, without ideal lighting it's rather unremarkable. At the same time I thought Portimao might be too flashy. Well 4 months in I'm glad I went with Portimao. The paint still has a good flop/range depending on the light and it's always interesting. I just applied CQuartz UK 3.0 and Gliss, the car is still curing in the garage but it looks like it will be super glossy when I bring it out.

For those of you that have different forms of paint and wheel protection, do you all own your cars vs lease? I’m interested in prolonging the beauty but on a 3 year lease it seems hard to justify another $1-2k for paint protection.

Agreed - I lease and went through the same thought process, ended up deciding I couldn't justify the cost as I won't be keeping the car beyond the 3yr lease.

My car is leased and I did the coatings myself. I probably have $200 into materials, that's for both coatings, Essence polish, and a few other supplies needed to do it. If you want something simpler and cheaper Jescar Power Lock+ is an excellent paint sealant. Easy on/off and it will give you a true 6 months of protection (including easier shedding of dirt) and shine which is about as much as you can hope for from something that isn't a coating.

Hi,
I had never been a great fan of dark colors on a car, BUT I must say that Tanzanite Blue Metallic II is really sharp! On a cloudy day or when the light is dull, it has the look of a dark blue car, but whenever light shines on it, it glimmers and comes off with many different shades of blue -- like the Tanzanite stone. Think NewM3driver suggestion for those not familiar with the color is well worthwhile, BUT from what I saw of the videos, the light is a little flat so you don't really see what I am getting at. The attached picture shows it a little better Additionally, the Vernasca Cognac interior is a great match!

Friday: Washed, iron decon, clay, wash, polish with Essence, IPA wipe, and applied CQUK.
Saturday: Let CQUK cure. Sunday: Remove wheels, clean, applied CQUK to wheels & calipers. Applied Gliss to car (touched up a couple of high spots from CQUK application). Monday & Tuesday: Let Gliss cure. In reality the process could be compressed but because of the C19 situation I'm able to be generous with the cure times and let the car sit a lot longer. The point of applying Gliss was to prevent water spots which can occur with CQUK alone, Gliss only needs 12h to cure.

I see that most prefer Alpine White paint over Mineral White paint.
Is this due to cost savings? It would be interesting to know why this choice is due. I'm not white, but I find Mineral White paint more attractive. Cheers |

I have mineral white. Love it. I would say there's going to be a few that choose Alpine White as it's more classic BMW, but most I'm sure are either purchased from dealer inventory (lots of dealerships order AP) or like you said cost savings.
