v6 Honda accord to M440i xdrive can i handle it?
Hello everyone, I have had a 350z for about 5 years than a 2019 Subaru sti than traded it in for a v6 Honda accord because i started my career and then moved into my own apartment
I have been driving the accord for about 4 years im 31 i have been an engineer for 5 years now and have become an area manager i recently went from a 70k salary to 100k salary and im finally feeling like i am able to own a sportscar again i took a 4 year break to focus on my career and learning how to live on my own. I really miss driving a fun car and at my age i actually want luxury and sport now is that enough money to afford a M440i xdrive? i am looking at a 2021-2022 M440i xdrive used 20k miles and under at around 40k ish. I'm a little nervous going to Bmw but i really LOVE the M440i and the M4 i feel is too expensive for where i am at now. Anybody who has the M440i xdrive can you tell me your experience owning one and is it a somewhat ok decision to consider or should i consider something else? Thank you all for any advice you may have for me. |

M340i is my first BMW, came from Jap cars. briefly had an Audi S4 but i felt it was going to fall apart so i sold it immediately.
completely different. the quality is better, but the most important thing is BMW tunes everything for driving experience, it just drives like a car should. in the Jap cars driving experience is an afterthought. I'd say you have good taste |

The B58 and ZF 8 speed have so far proven pretty solid in terms of reliability and as others have mentioned, BMW build quality is excellent. That said, any repairs will almost certainly cost more when compared to a Honda (or any non German car for that matter). Wiper blades from the dealer are more expensive too.
With the M440 you have M sport brakes which are upgraded over the standard 330/430 brakes…and naturally cost more to replace. If you get the car from a dealership you can most likely get some oil changed thrown in. I got my first 3 free (or so they said). Otherwise the B58/ZF 8 speed experience will outweigh the cost in my opinion. I was about your age and salary range when I traded my F30 330 for a G20 M340 and I have absolutely no regrets…but I also havent had to take it in for any major repairs yet haha.

As long as you take care of the car and perform periodic maintenance, you'll be fine. The B58/ZF8 has been around for about a decade now. Those who tune and beat the snot out of them (within reason), and the guys who remain stock, have great reliability. Most people only post when something bad happens, not the thousands who have zero problems. You'll be fine

I have m440gc. Its a fun ride. I really like it. I could not justify paying for m3comp. I also could not find any real data on m3/m4 that is driven daily. Most of the cars I saw were like 10k miles in 2 or so year. Not daily drives, I like to use my stuff accordingly.
You will have fun in m440, if you want to have more fun and I dont know your family situation, get m240. This is where fun really starts. I had 2 series as loaner oh boy I had fun If I could own multiple cars for my self Id defiantly get m240 and m550. m440 is great but its too small for me now and I was little too stupid to realize this at purchase time.

Had a V6 Accord Coupe before my M340i, and now M440i GC.
You’re not ready. As soon as you engage launch control and hit the gas for the first time, you won’t be able to drive anything else. It’s exhilarating, and if you can afford it, do it. They are amazing vehicles. As someone who makes not a whole lot more than you, as long as you have your priorities in order, you can afford it. If you have a ton of debt or other financial obligations each month, maybe work on those for a bit… but only you can make that decision. |

To everyone that says "Buy a house, have a family, etc." I hear you... but it's not for everyone, especially nowadays. Some people do better on their own, and trying to force a relationship for the sake of being in a relationship is a HUGE MISTAKE. And don't even get me started on "Buy a house" in this economy...

I drive a M440i xdrive coupe as my daily. Came from a Tacoma, Acura MDX, Acura TL and X5. Before that Oldsmobile, tempo and Cavalier. The M440i is a nice luxury GT. I love the lines of the two door and the back row is functional for anyone under 5’10”. The different modes allow for comfort as well as some on the edge driving. I had the choice to get more expensive cars but wanted a good blend of functionality and sportiness.

The only advice I will give, and it is my opinion so take it with a grain of salt, is maximize your long term investments/savings. I have seem people who can afford a car, house, whatever, based on their salary but they don't save. Then when they want to retire, they can't.
If you happy with your situation, then go for it. |

I had an accord V6 coupe before I purchased my m340. In some ways, I don’t feel like this is an upgrade. The biggest difference to me is moving away from FWD and the build quality is so much better in BMW. I loved that J35Y motor though. They weren’t quick off the line but they were decently quick from a roll.
Clearly the BMW is faster and handles better, but that doesn’t make me a better driver 😅 my son wants a Honda accord v6 for his first car though 👀 |
