Your right, I see more Camaro and Audi A5 than anything, especially with the rear window. 8-series gives off more Mustang vibes.
it's the bastard child of all of the above

I can forgive the ugly front massive bbq lung grills cause it's atleast still "BMW" styling.

BUT what i can not forgive is them screwing up the Holfmeister kink in the window area!!!!! Ughhhh

I tried so hard to like this car but I just cant.

There was a good reference earlier comparing the 4 series redesign to the Porsche 996 (aka fried egg 911/Boxster platform).

Change is necessary & inevitable, but drastic changes to an established brand is very risky.

Porsche learned that and reverted to similar 993 cues with the 997. Only time will tell, but it is here to stay for a bit so we must embrace it or skip this model for several years.

The side and back look nice. But really though, the back reminds me of Lexus. While the front reminds me of Bugs bunny. :

Yeah i'm also strongly considering the G80 as my next car. I think the grill is done much better on it than on the 4.

As the owner of two F32 435i coupes, before my G30 540i, I need to get this off my chest:

- the front grill is the most obvious area to criticise. I need not repeat what so many others have already said.

- But WHAT was BMW thinking creating another, smaller, grill immediately below the kidney grill and between it and the lower edge of the front fascia?

- The almost complete eradication of the Hoffmeister kink in the C-pillar is truly scandalous. I remember seeing F42 coupes with brushed aluminium (yes, that's how I spell it) window trim and thinking how wonderful that specific area looked. No more. Now, the new 4 looks like an Audi A5. Audi's C-pillar interpretation has long been an area of complete turn-off for me.

- Say goodbye to BMW's wonderful side aspect flame surfacing. Now, we have a lumpy pudding to behold. And, while I'm at it: the haunches, which were so nicely defined in the F32, now look completely unremarkable. Like a Mercedes C-class coupe, from the same angle.

- Why can't we have a side "air breather" vent, like before? Why must we be content with an evocative little crease behind the front wheel? Was the vent not functional all along?

- The rear end of the car is not that bad.

For me it doesn't matter if it looks like a mustang, A5 or whatever, nowadays cars look often similar in some way....

But what I personally and definitely see here is just an ugly, unbalanced & huge car...

Correct but looks much larger than current F32
You can still compare the X5 & 4er by how much It takes up in its own parking space.

I'd take the Mustang over this. Preferably a 2015 - 17 one (ie. pre-facelift).

First after market manufacturer to bring out an 8-series style grille & front bumper for the 4 series wins.
The GT350... Mmm!

Kind of like when you think someone looks like someone else until you directly compare the photos side by side, then you're like "nah!"
The Mustang has a more BMWish side profile bc of the Hoffmeister kink vs the G22. Here's to throwing out a signature BMW design element for the sake of "change". What's next? Getting rid of the blue and white roundel and using just basic lines? Oh wait...

Exactly my thoughts. So the question to be answered is:
* Are functional Air Breathers indeed improving aerodynamics as BMW has been claiming? In which case they surely should have included them on the 3er/4er given the competitive advantage they offer in a brutally harsh industry and a CO2 emissions global hysteria (if needed, in a discreet manner, without the decorative trim found on other models).
* Or are functional Air Breathers offering no measurable benefit and are they merely a design gimmick (BMW goes to the trouble and cost of designing and manufacturing them even when they aren't functional, e.g. X3) which they've now started to grow out of? Which implies that the initial claim was a scam

I mean really it's the mustang that reminds me of a bimmer. Bimmer's been doing the long swoopy coupe thing way before Ford got their shit, I mean mustang, together.

The current M340 doesn't, I'm hoping it stays that way!

Hmmm.. don't know how I feel about this model...
Proportions are throwing me off... 😬😬😬 just doesn't look right! If I have to keep staring for it to grow on me, then you lost me!

Kind of relieved , I was a little annoyed that the coupe wasn't available when my lease was up! M340 not looking so bad now! 😂😂😂

This is crutial. I don't like anything fake on the car, that's the reason I buy RWD BMW always. I don't like fake exausts, I don't like fake air breathers. M Performace parts are F(ake) performance parts. No performance there. I don't want carbonfiber decorations on the car. If CF doesn't save weight I don't want it. CF roof , fender, bonnet yes but CF decorations only are mega kitch. CF mirror caps? What's that for?! BMW must stop now and think a bit.

I have zero issues with the carbon MP kit, I spent thousands on it for my F80 M3 and it looked fabulous, the carbon fibre roof was and is a beautiful (standard) feature that I love on M cars, I fitted the MP HAS kit as well which was awesome but you only get the benefit with an M car.

MP kit on a 420d? Like you have no I wouldn't spend a penny on it I'd be saving up for an M car which I guess you are.

I know how you feel, I had the same exact sentiment the second I saw the look of the new G-Generation 2 Series, thinking; how the hell are they going to morph this dumpster fire into a palatable-looking M2..

BMW is really slipping in the physical appeal department..

Fingers crossed they don't also screw up the G87 M2.. 🤞🏼

CF roof is good because it lowers the center of gravity but CF decoration like mirror caps are useless. M pack is good for any BMW - better aerodinamics, sport seats with alcantara, sport or adaptive suspension, sport brakes for some models. Not comparable options.

And no. I don't save for the M car. Next one will be 330i or 430i

God damn that's a long wheel base. E46, 1M, M2 have the perfect wheel base(s) for playfulness IMO. My F82 was already at the limits of what I wanted out of a chassis to "rotate" through the twisties. This things gotta change direction like a yacht in a pond.
