AA downpipe with active cats/not gesi

Hey looking at getting an active autowerks downpipe for my m340i and see that you can get it with an active cat instead of the gesi cat for a little cheaper. Does the active cat still guarantee no check engine?

Correct, active cat will not trigger a cel. I've been running one for a few months with no issues at all after following the break in procedure.

Highly recommend purchasing from mike@x-ph.com. Easily the best price and shopping experience for car parts.

I just installed mines yesterday on my 2020 m340 and its great. So far so good no CEL after following the break in procedure that AA supplies in the box.

As mentioned, there is no need to pay for the GESI now that active autowerke released their cat with the same no CEL guarantee.

I was skeptical at first, as I had only seen it offered from a single vendor. So I reached out to the manufacturer. They responded within a few hours.

Quote:
It is real, we allowed some dealers early access to test out the waters for us before we go live on our site. Only difference between GESI and our cat is the name, they both have the same benefits.

Over and out,

Alan
That was good enough for me to move on it. Used a very vocal vendor on this forum, responded quick, beat my best price. Shipping was quick and install was able to be done with a single ramp, a floor jack, 3 sockets, couple of extensions, hammer, coffee, and a YouTube video.

Working great! And the vendor, oh boy. Communication was right to the point. PM pricing is real. And product showed up in a very timely manner.

X-ph definitely earned a repeat Buisness from me. ActiveAutowerke, I’d buy their stuff again for sure. Welds looked fine. Cat does its job. The tab was easy to get into place for some slight adjustments.

Update: I bought one and it arrive yesterday, I installed it myself yesterday and doubled check to make sure everything was tightened and sealed. No check engine light after spirited driving and some fun. Fast forward to today, the car was having no issues, until I started it to head home from work. Just cruising and the cel popped on. I have tried to clear the code seeing if it will go away because I have read that it can come on when they are new and getting broken in. But I can’t get it to clear. Anyone know how to get it to clear so I can see if it comes back?

its normal to get the check engine light in the first 1200 miles. it should not pop up after that especially if you followed the break-in procedure correctly.

I followed the break in procedure, but the cel is still there. Does it just go away? Or something that has to be coded out?

give it 1200 miles and clear the code, it should not come back.

if its past the 1200 miles and you still have the code, contact active autowerke and they will replace the downpipe

Is it just the car learning that it has a downpipe?

not 100% sure if its the car learning or the cat needing time to start working as needed

I bought and installed an active cat downpipe a few months ago. The cel popped up once initially. I cleared it with the jb4 and it's been trouble free ever since. I too was skeptical at first but now I'm happy to have saved a couple dollars with the same end result.
