There are a few videos on you tube explaining the difference. A quick look under the engine cover should confirm. |

I think I need to take off the engine cover and have a look, most places I have read seem to say that the uk did not get the TU2 engine, no idea why they would do that tbh.

Seems like MHT cars also have the in-line starter/generator.

Why wouldn't it include the UK?
Post a picture of your plastic engine cover, or furthermore, take your engine cover off, and look at the markings embossed into the plastic, it will say TU2. |

FYI my late 2024 LCI2 (October build) M340i has the TU1 engine.
The presence of the alternator and the lack of fuel rail (for direct port injection) confirms this. Maybe they will switch to TU2 for the UK when TU1 engines "run out" 🤷 |

To identify whether you have the TU2 or TU1, simply pop the cover off. If it's the TU2, you'll notice a shiny aluminum port injection intake manifold. If it's the TU1, it'll be a black plastic intake manifold. I hope this helps you determine which version you have!

No need to even go that far, the TU2 has a different plastic engine cover!
Also, some TU2’s (the first ones) got the poverty spec non-M engine cover, whereas the newer ones now feature a much nicer M plastic engine cover. |

Well, that’s a first and I stand corrected.
I’ve always thought that the TU1 engine cover looks terrible with its older (F generation) M Perf logo / typeface. In terms of the TU2 engine cover, all TU2’s I’ve seen either have the non-M variant, which was on the first batches of cars, as pictured here; ![]() Or, latterly with the M version, which looks like this; ![]() Last edited by blau3er; 02-18-2025 at 09:52 AM.. So bottom line is we do not get the TU2 engine in the uk :-( so the info i had read a while back that said the uk were not getting the TU2 engine is in fact correct.

As I said before, perhaps they will swap to TU2 engines when TU1 engines cease being made. I think you said you have a '25 340? Be good for you to check yours so we can clearly differentiate the year models/engine variants 👍🏻 in the UK |

I don't have the engine bay bracing either on my 340, is yours a 4 series? This picture is not my engine bay, mine is shown higher up this thread

No, mines a G21, the last of the LCI1's (May 24 build). Those were just stock images I found so show the differences. ![]() Looks like youve edited your post from earlier, which originally led me to believe you were suggesting that yours was a LCI2 car, with a TU2, but with a TU1 engine cover. Obviously thats not the case, so my previous posts should be disregarded! Very odd that there seem to be UK cars which are LCI2's but still with the TU1. Everything else I have read online seemed to point to the opposite, in so much as LCI2 cars were getting the TU2. If this is correct, it makes the price increases and lower (standard) specs of the LCI2's seem even more ridiculous now, given the upgrades essentially now seem to consist only of ID8.5, a steering wheel change and new HVAC controls! ![]() |

My M340i touring was delivered 2 weeks ago and has the m performance cover so assume TU1 engines, this is our first BMW and I am very impressed with it so far (only 200 miles on the clock so far) and tbh I’d need to do some more research to see if I should feel short changed regarding the engine.

If you read the “future model information” thread, it states the the TU2 is coming to test of the world later this year.
Right now it’s US only. |
