M340i; trouble deciding Dinan or Active Autowerke exhaust
Im having a hard time deciding between these 2 systems for my M340i and am looking for a little input.
I like the symmetry of the Dinan and the dual flap valves. The qc issues I've read about make me a turn away a little. I don't want an internally rattling muffler or an overly difficult install. It sounds amazing in the videos I've heard. I haven't read of any install or qc issues with the AA system. Mike at x -ph said he prefers this system and it has a deeper midrange rpm sound. Anyone here have any experience with both systems? Please let me know your thoughts between the two. |

I had Dinan on my m340i (and 4 other BMW's) and had no qc issues...still sound great on my e39 m5 with 124,000 miles...

I went with AA on my M340. I was between them both, but I heard how AA was deeper and Dinan wouldn't be available for some time. I was hesitant due to the lack of videos, but it's great! No qc issues and the valves work perfect. In comfort it's toned down. Not much louder but def deeper than stock. In sport with valves open it is rowdy. Here's a clip after the install.

Yes, I went with the AA for the reasons stated above. Availability and it sounds deeper than the Dinan (I’ve never heard the dinan in person before). It sounds mean af and I love it. I also have an AA down pipe waiting to go in.

Do you have any issues with droning? My only concern with the AA is that it doesn’t have the exhaust flaps anymore and if I need the car to be quieter i can do so.

It gets a little buzzy/ droney in the cabin around 1800 to 1900 rpm under load. Think higher gear going up hill situation. It does have a flap valve, just one on the passenger side like stock. The flap valve really makes no difference in the 18-1900 rpm buzz in the cabin. The buzz is usually short lived and I don't mind it after having the exhaust on for over a month now.
