I have a 2020 BMW G20 M Sport. It has 26,000 km on it, and recently it started to make a squeaking noise in the steering. The noise is quite low, and it occurs after the car has been running for about 15 minutes. When I turn off the vehicle and try to move the steering wheel, I can tell that the noise is still there. Has anyone else experienced this situation?

I just got mine (2021 330i xDrive with M Sport with 23k miles) back from the dealership after 10 days. Similar squeaking noises started to appear after the car has warmed up. First trip to the dealer for service they replaced the SZL model, didn’t solve the problem. Second time they kept the car longer for further investigation. SA updated after three days that they needed to get in touch with BMW for confirmation as well as ordering the parts to fix, which later I learned to be the whole electric steering rack assembly and other misc parts, etc. Finally picked up my car and that replacement solved the problem. The car got a new rack, aligned, tested to make sure no further problems. So far so good for me. SA also told me - and also based on my various research - this problem is widespread in other models as well and more than BMW care to admit. There are SIBs written against it, but so far no recalls. I was lucky that the SA was very attentive and we discussed about the problem and details on the path forward to fix. I also got the loaner for all that time, for which I’m thankful.
