It's an interesting theory for sure... one working on me as I am including the x3m in my consideration next fall. Most likely candidate is m340 but the x3m has my interest where it wouldn't otherwise

Personally not working for me. After having a F80 and G01 M40i I've realized I don't need two sporty cars with horrible MPG. My next SUV will be more comfy and practical and my F80 replacement will likely be a Model 3 Performance. G80 manual will be tempting though but out of sync with my lease cycles.

Interesting that the M4 is offroad in that pic while the X3M is on pavement...

No silly, this is the joke! Look at how those dudes are laughing! That dude on the right is loving it!

So, yeah, this is completely an alternative to that

If lease rates stay where they are, i'll absolutely be getting this over over that.

Sad but true. I guess that statement would read even more true if I stated brown or black. The numbers are staggering. Thankfully I didn't fall victim to the allure of the streets.

And....!? hate the gear stalk and no manual option... hate poor leasing rates... dislike infotainment and dated feel but love a lot about that car and will probably consider one also if the M3 sucks

The gear stalk thing is definitely a huge negative. Would make me feel like I'm driving some sort of 1970s minivan.

Given the car had 20 miles on the odo and hadn't been broken in, couldn't really drive it like I stole it, but I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. The transmission is a *lot* better than I expect. Never got in my way - even in full auto. In manual mode it was sort of nice - though the ratios were very close so it was a pain to avoid the rev limiter. It's a multi-clutch 9-speed box and downshifts quickly when you press the paddle (in manual). Better than the ZFAT in the X3M I drove.

The engine/exhaust sounds pretty good (V8 goodness and a performance exhaust), but I wan't totally blown away (apparently they recently added some particulate filter in the exhaust that affects the sound for the worse)

Felt like a comfortable heavier GT style car. Very responsive, but not as 'hands on' as an M4. I didn't get a chance to push anywhere near the limits, but I can imagine it being a bit heavy/understeery on the track.

The interior and technology is hugely better than the BMW. In fact, feels much more modern than the X3M I test-drive recently The digital dash is much better than the BMW equivalent. That's a bit sad. Why are BMW M cars always a few years behind the times?

I'm sort of tempted - also thinking about a C8 or a Taycan, but may not be able to wait that long. Carrera GTS, Audi RS5 or RSTT are also in the running.

Please BMW, throw me a bone!

It is interesting that BMW always seems to be just a tad behind on the tech. Granted, I personally don't have a problem with what they offer (...my coded ///M4 with DVD playback in motion and other goodies is perfectly fine for me), but I know the tech lovers do.

I love that car. Too bad it will be too expensive to buy in the UK. Brexit will see its prices jump 400%. Good luck.

I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger on an RS5 Sportback. I like the X3M but not enough to justify the price. I dragged raced one at an M Track day last week and the turbo lag is really noticeable off the line, and that was a comp model in sport plus. The RS5 is dynamically a much more engaging vehicle, and I realize I'm comparing a SUV to a car, but they are at similar price points.

Love the RS5 Sportback .... if an elevated seating position isn't important then that's an easy choice for me... AWD, that hatch.... RS6 Avant is quite a lot more and probably less light feeling & flickable but .... something you could hand down to your grandchildren lol

I had a 2015 Audi with the MMI and honestly it was a joke... my buddy has a 2019 A4 with the full virtual cockpit and while it looks and feels great; it just doesn't work that well; the menus are all over the place. It's obvious BMW spent a lot of money on Idrive and it really works well.
