OH LORD! What a nightmare this model will turn out to be. Are Germans even designing these cars anymore? It looks like something out of China. Tacky, plastic and gimmicky. Classless.

3-er has always had its own identity. Now it just looks like "I couldn't afford a 5 series let alone m5 so I got this instead"

This.... the 3 is now just a 5 lite. Same way the 5 is a 7 lite, but at least the 7 is an in no way desirable car that sells poorly

What in the flying floogan figgity fook fooks is this real estate? I've noticed this since we've first got to see the interior for this generation.

I bet a bunch of people who hate the styling will change their minds when they see it in person. As I said before, I like it now and I bet it looks even better when you're not just looking at pictures.

You seem to really dislike Bimmers in general. Why are here? Smaller BMWs have always been smaller versions of the model above. Have you never heard the term “same sausage, different length”? Speaking of which, the three current Mercedes models are examples of that phrase now more than ever. The Merc C Class is truly a smaller version of the S Class.

btw, have you driven the 7er? I have. It is a great driver’s car. Unfortunately, in its class buyers prefer to drive a rolling living room, which is what the S Class gives them. For buyers in that segment who prefer proper driving dynamics the 7er delivers the goods.

The interior of the G20 3er is by far the most luxurious of any previous 3er. It easily now compares with the A4. One of the biggest dings to the F30 interior was that it didn’t compare to the newest tech and luxury of the A4. Well, it does now. Any claim otherwise simply isn’t based in fact.

Even if that's the case, it looks so out of place. No rhyme intended!

??? Does every square inch have to have a button? It appears nothing was needed to go there. If it was filled with buttons the complaint would be that it was too “busy”.

Looks like 2 cutouts for other optional buttons but they just ran out of stuff to add to it

I looked at other close-ups. I think it's just blank space or a placeholder for something else. If it is just blank space...it makes the surround easier to manufacture for LHD/RHD cars I would think, as opposed to an "L" shape design that would have to be done two ways.

I need more electronic shit that adds buttons and luxury. I also need a manual transmission and a naturally aspirated 6 pot that burbles and does 18 mpg, and also a kerb weight of 2,800 lb. I also demand pelmet lighting like a new-build kitchen unit and a leather dash. Did I tell you I was an enthusiast? Because of the manual transmission thing. Hey, it’s a shibboleth...

It looks like the space is used for off road controls (?) on the new X5

I do think this looks a lot better than the pre-lci f30. They took that car and made it look really good with the m3 and the lci refresh. If a tradition grill is available then to me the g20 is off to a much better start than the f30 had. Can't wait for the m3 and lci to address some complaints and improve on, for the most part, a great looking car

How do you propose they should redesign it?

pffftt. Audi interiors are fucking GARBAGE. Their infotainment system makes CUE look ingenious, and the seats feel like wooden boards with leather strapped on

How is this possible are they not going to have an m performance version like normal? Somehow I doubt that?

No it does not, but reduce the size of the area, or redesign it so there's no blank space. It looks out of place imo.

Dunno. They pay me to be a CIO, not a designer.

The F30 panel certainly doesn't look like a 1990s VCR and doesn't have a hideous giant extra blank space on it. How about starting there.
