Question Hotel Atlantis - Bahamas

My family is headed for a week stay at Hotel Atlantis - Paradise Island, Bahamas and I am looking for advice from those that have been there.

Family of four; wife, two teenage girls and myself.

Dos, Don'ts, "wish we would of..." and other advice welcomed.

Cheers!

I am sure I can find some bottles either way, but I do assume it is. I will be bringing something back to sip on.

There aren’t a ton of things to check out. It’s more of a relax on the beach or resort kind of vacation. I’ve been there a few times and my thoughts are below.

- there is a little garden area with some cool columns nearby. Forgot the name but when you leave Atlantis, turn left at the first intersection (before the souvenirs stores and the liquor store), walk about 1/4 mile and there’s a little garden. Really cool place to see.
- do a private boat tour to a private island. Easliy one of my most memorable experiences. They fished and cooked for us on the boat.
- downtown is meh. Just lots of shopping which I don’t care for.
- there is a house with 007 as the address which supposedly belongs to Pierce Brosnan.
- check out The Cove in Atlantis as you might run into some celebs. Adults only though.
- casino was fun to play some games. I ran into Larry the Cable Guy there and took a picture with him.
- the aquarium is nothing like I’ve ever seen before. Was really cool.
- best thing to do in Atlantis, IMO, is to just hang out at the water park and do the lazy river. They have that one water ride where you just drop straight down - was really fun and we did that many times during our week there.

There's a dive shop called Stuarts Cove, they will come to your hotel and pick you up. I highly recommend the shark dive if you are certified, but if you aren't, they offer Snuba and mini submarine rides. I would definitely make a day of that if you can, it's unreal.

^ ah yes, forgot about snorkeling. I think we used the same company for snorkeling. The sharks piece was cool but can be scary. It’s deep sea snorkeling for that part. Try the conchs salad at the end of the bridge leading out of Atlantis.

You can do Snorkeling in the Atlantis Aquarium for like $200 per person but it is amazing to say the least. the amount of different species of fish and the whole set up is a once in a life time opportunity to experience. I have done a lot of snorkeling in different places and none compare to this. you will not regret it though if you are scared of having massive fish and sharks next to you it might feel a little sketchy. just know the sharks could care less about you being in there as they have an endless menu swimming around them at all times so they eat what they want when they want. Also, swimming in PIG ISLAND is just WAAAYYY over priced for what it is (Yes i did it) but I would never waste my time and money doing it again. Hope this helps

I stayed at The Cove in Atlantis; was fantastic.
Resort dives are a lot of fun too; dive down 15-30 feet and swim with the fish.

I am an avid freedive spearo (spearfish) and have decades of experience swimming with and fighting off sharks for the fish I speared, of all species including a massive Tiger Shark. I don’t plan on taking any dive trips/outings on this trip. We lived in Hawaii previously and lived in the water, I am not sure the family will be interested in doing any of that, but they might and we will see. I appreciate the information and tips.

The submarine trip and aquarium snorkeling sounds interesting, I will look into those options.

Pig Island isn’t worth it? What does that trip look like? Take a boat to Pig Island, jump in and swim with wild hogs, then depart back to Atlantis?

Keep it coming, I appreciate the insight.

Resort area and surrounding are safe

I have teenage girls too, never felt uncomfortable

sand is very clean, people walking around trying to sell you stuff are harmless very warm people just trying to make some money

Don't be surprised if you kids and wife all have braids and bought seashell bracelets while you were getting a cold drink

Cafe on property was good for afternoon meals, hot sandwiches, grilled chicken salads etc prices just decent for a island (good with kids)

What do you mean by resort dive? Diving in the aquarium as previously mentioned? Maybe I should pack some of my spears.

It sounds like you already went on my vacation! I can see my girls doing all of the above, I may just stay in the casino and / or bar. Do they have craps tables in the casino?

What are the best restaurants to eat at in the resort?

Martinique (seafood)

It's pricy and I don't like seafood but my wife and kids liked it most ($300+ and I was hungry after)

I'm from Massachusetts, seafood all around me but I want Texas bbq you likely want seafood on holiday lol

Casino is a full casino, all table games you would expect and machines

Beware: sugary cold tropical drinks sneak up on you, got drunk @ 3pm one day, took a nap in the room was fine by 6pm

Sounds good, we love seafood so that's going to happen.

My wife wont be happy to hear about the full casino, I will keep that to myself.

Good stuff!

Atlantis is great, the Cove is awesome, ive stayed many times...first thing - Book your dinner reservations NOW...asap..seriously. If you want to go to the best places at the times you want, you need to book asap and not wait for your arrival or you will not get in or get the time you want. Most places onpremise are great, go to their website and pick the type you like and book them now.
As for offsite, try to get a reservation for Graycliff, arguably the most famous restaurant on the island, very historic old world theme, read up on it.
Also, go next door to the One and Only hotel Ocean Club- the Dune restaurant is awesome and the location is spectacular.

Too much to write but enjoy enjoy enjoy

Downtown Nassau is a shopping haven for the girls. Therefore do what I did and head over to Pirate Republic Brewery while they shop, great craft beers and cool atmosphere. It's right on the main strip. It was hysterical how many guys were in there to escape the shopping, we were all buying each other beers and joking about it. Enjoy your trip...

Exactly the intel I’m looking for, I’ll make our reservations ASAP.
