Hopefully it will be as simple as a tune to address this.
I track my cars so try not to tune them .. my F80 didn't like the JBwhatever when I was on the track ... but it felt like the 6MT needed the tune to feel as fast as a stock DCT F80. Power delivery I guess? I still had more fun in my 6MT than my DCT... my wife didn't even want to drive the DCT! lol... she's a total "sports cars need to be a manual" snob, far worse than me.

Anyways .. like many others, I'm super excited about this news! Special order here I come.
I was thinking more akin to how the M2C has a de-tuned S55. I believe you can just take the M3/M4 Competition software and put it on to gain more power. Hopefully the Pure M3 is just a detuned S58 and there are no difference in internals 🤫😁

Perhaps BMW could have developed a kick-ass DCT, if it wasn't for the money spent on developing a manual transmission

Didn't they also reassure that:

M cars were staying RWD?
M cars are not going hybrid/electronic?

They have already introduced Audi-ized M cars now with the M5 and since that they have also said future M cars may be hybrid or electric. They've also removed DCT gearboxes for cheaper and more ordinary 8 speed ZF gearboxes.

So as for manuals? I'll believe it when I see it.

The M division is not what it used to be...I hope for the best but see the reality.

Hybrid is a given at some point, because soon enough you won't be able to drive in some city limits unless you are zero emissions. Then once you reach the outside of city limits, you can fire up the fire 🔥 breathing dragon 🐉 again.

World changes. I mean they can reassure us that they will keep making ICE cars, but if all European countries (Rightfully) are declaring that they will be banning ICE cars within 2 decades, they can't really stick to their promise, if they want to keep "existing" as a car company.

S4 is not a competitor for the M3/4. That's M340i area.

If I may chime in. I am driving MT for over 25 years.

All mine M3/4 were MT and I drove Friends Honda S2000 and the first 911 7 speed MT

Honda and Porsche are on top. As good as you can get the MT!!!!

Bmw is not the best but not the worst either.

Not sure yet.
It's not decided yet but looks like it will offer 10speed at the start.

Actually, since the F80 M3 and F30 340i went out of production last year, they don't currently produce any. Incidentally, this means the WRX STi is the highest performing manual sedan on the market right now, followed by the WRX, the G70, the Accord, the Jetta GLI, the Civic Si, and a handful of pseudo-sporty economy cars. It also means there are currently no sedans with both a manual transmission and more than four cylinders.

But yes, assuming the G80 M3 does get a manual option as the M CEO has reaffirmed, it could be the only truly high performance sedan that has an available manual transmission.

Prevailing belief, based on comments made by GM officials, is that at least one of them will, yes.

The manual does in fact have advantages, it retains loyal enthusiast customers like myself. 10 BMWs so far. And it looks like I will be placing an order for my 11th soon.

Screw being faster. I'd buy a Tesla if all I wanted was 0-60 and lap times.

The manual is an experience. It's visceral. It's a characteristic of BMW M cars since inception.

Do not squander your heritage.
Actually. I remember discussing this issue on Bimmerfest many years ago. Someone with inside knowledge supposedly revealed that BMW management DOES have BMW employees lurking on Bimmerpost and Bimmerfest and reporting trends back to management. The take away was that decisions ARE sometimes made based on feedback, complaints and praise mentioned on these two forums. So, Bimmerpost may be one of the reasons the manual is remaining an option on the M2/M3/M4 for the foreseeable future.

I know the hardcore manual luxury high performance sedan population is small, but given that G80 M3 is going to be the only car that fulfill all these requirements in the future. I assume that BMW can pretty much dominate this group of people.

28.5% in the US.The rest of the world, however, is abysmal.

Whose market will get the manual cars? The US sales for manual cars is declining for sure. I valeted my car and had to retrieve it myself the other day because they only had 1 guy who could drive it and he had gone home. The new BMW buyers market certainly is not the traditional enthusiasts, seems more like old white males and middle aged women. Neither of which could be bothered with manually shifting gears. The manual car is dead in the states and dealers know that they'll sell 5 times more auto cars 5 times faster then the 6mt. So why would dealers spec them out?

It's declining for sure.

Don't forget M3 at the start and many generation was only offered with MT this is the legacy.....we don't want to lose yet.

If you know how to drive manual you would understand.
Knowing how to rev-match and when to shift is very enjoyable and satisfying to drive.

I find it hilarious that in Europe everybody learns to drive on a manual transmission and when they can afford an M3 they buy the DCT, while in the US everybody learns to drive on an auto slushbox and when they can afford an M3 they buy the 6MT and spend hours writing posts about how special it is!
