For everyone complaining about the "new" large/tall kidney grilles...

Lots more like these in those years...

Those grilles, while huge, served a real purpose. When Tesla first released the Model S, there were a lot of complaints about the fact that it had a dummy grille. It served no purpose for airflow, but it definitely helped it maintain the look of a normal non-EV car. They have since eliminated it on the Model S and the Model 3 never had it, and both of those cars look odd.

The grille on the i4 is the complete opposite! Not only is it just not subtle, it's an extremely prominent feature. I don't like it, but I also never had any intention of buying an i4. The only other BMWs that I would consider buying right now besides another E90 are the F20 and F22. Now get off my lawn!

There is no grills on i4 as there isn't any openings. The large kidneys (not kidney grills) are called 'Intelligent panel' and it is the housing for all the sensors. (Radar, camera, proximity, etc)

IMO they look much better on 2020 car.
I think anything with small grills look old and dated now. Including my G30.

To some. Not to others, as was likely the case back then. I’m fine with the i4 design. It has historical roots.

I think this looks jaw droopingly amazing. It looks like the kidneys are running away and the car is chasing it. It looks like it's moving even though it's standing still!

Everyone is so hell bent on hating this car and design, it looks fantastic in this image.
Eh, I see where you're coming from, but damn, one's eyes should not fixate on that awful grill. It is a horrible grill. Should have a 'Chip & Dale: Rescue Ranger' logo on it.

These grills work due the relative position of the lights, about midway height wise. The new grill doesn't work due to the lights brings relatively high compared to grill.

The grille doesn’t “work” or not. You just happen to like it or not.
