Yeah. Based on today's journey.

Think the thing is to not take the indicated range too seriously.

I tend to agree.

BMW say EV range is based, in part, on a 'predictive' algorithm. Rather than what we are used to with fuel range, which is based on recent use.

What also appears in user figures, some drivers are hard on the loud pedal.

I own a 2017 and I’m in Canada (Toronto area). Driven mine since new and I can say with confidence, that I get about 15km of pure electric range in the summer and 9km in the winter. That’s using eco mode.

I had to decide whether to buy out at the end of lease or just give it back. I had my dealer provide me a quote to replace all the battery cells (assuming this might need doing after the warranty is up).

Drum roll .... $14000 CDN including parts and labour. That’s a no go.

Has anyone been able to get anything more than 10A out of the granny charger? I’m having a new 240v 3 pin socket put in near the front of my house and am wondering if all I can expect is 10A or will the electrician be able to install something more robust to increase the amps?

I know UK sockets are 13A, but you really don’t want anything more that 10A (3kW) plugged in for hours, just in case there's any oxidation in the socket - it’ll get very hot. 10A is a sensible compromise, and I think it’s also the limit of the supplied granny cable.

The batteries are warrantied for 6 years, so you would have a bit of time to get them replaced after the lease has run out. I would however expect BMW to claim "fair wear and tear" and "battery efficiency deteriorates so tough" towards the end of that time though. I'm sure they have themselves well covered. I would guess it would be difficult to prove it was due to a "manufacturing defect".

As matter of interest, have you always had that kind of range or has it got worse as the car has got older?

Don’t forger the original 330e only had an ‘official’ range of 25 miles.

It had a 7.2kWh battery rather than the current 12kWh.

I presume that if you’re getting crappy electric mileage you have the original model?

If you're spending money on getting a socket installed, maybe go one step further and get a proper charging socket installed? It's the only way you'll increase the current.
I have a Sync EV socket which is very small. You might also be eligible for an OLEV grant. An additional benefit of charging faster is that, in my case, I can fully charge within the 4 hours of cheap electricity in the night with Octopus Go tariff. https://share.octopus.energy/olive-jade-98

As a matter of interest, what's your thoughts on the Sync EV? I did look into getting one installed and that was probably a front runner, but even with grants the costs are ridiculous for what is essentially a bit of cable and a plug. I can charge off granny cable in 5 and a bit hours so didn't really see the benefits to justify the cost.

What's the Sync EV app like?

No issues with the charger - it does what it's supposed to. It was offered by my local electricians. It is mounted away from the house on a fence post, so its small size is a bonus, and it didn't require a separate earth rod as I believe some do.
The app isn't brilliant. You can view the charging history in chunks of the the last 30 days. I would prefer the last month (e.g. March) as that would make reporting it in my expenses easier. Supposedly you can schedule a charge. But whenever I have tried that it hasn't worked without manually starting it within the scheduled time which can't be right. So I just use the scheduling on the BMW app instead.

Said it was 2017 so they are definitely in the wrong part of the forum!

Question for other 330e owners: does anyone else just touch the passenger door handle to unlock the charger cable when unplugging? (I guess this needs comfort access?)

Shame there isn’t a sensor to unlock the cable clamp on the flap itself. But the passenger door trick is neat.

Seems you can touch any door handle to unlock.
Annoying thing for me though is I coil the cable up and store it out of Comfort Access range, so every time I have to unlock car to unplug cable, walk away to store cable, car locks, walk back to car, car unlocks.

Yeah. It’s just that the passenger handle is closest to the charging flap.

I store my cable under the flap in the boot. It fits fine (even the granny cable does) with the load cover and the net stashed there too. Touring, obviously.

what sort of driving was that? (in town/A road/plodding along the motorway)? In what driving mode?

It kinda annoys me a bit that the average miles/kWh figure gets distorted by the miles done on petrol. I'd rather that showed me battery only figures.

That said, 32 electric miles on 38 mile journey is very good. I definately.dont get that.

Best I've had is 40.8 miles electric on a 64 mile total journey. First 34 on electric then a mix of electric through regen and petrol for the remainder.

Just passed 1,000 miles having used 1.62 tanks of fuel. So average of 70 MPG plus electric. Mix of motorway and local driving. Charge time is average 5hrs 20 min. 13 charges completed to date ranging from 11-13KWH.

It is mostly on quite busy single carriageway A roads, hence the low speed.

This was driving in a mix of sport and Eco Pro. But it’s got better! I was just about to post again… once my laptop has updated.

Here is another picture from today which is even better than before.

However I have a question.

These were both driving home after charging from a fixed charger.

However driving from home to work, after charging from home using an extension lead, I am only getting around 25-27 miles driving the same route using the same mode, which is Hybrid Eco Pro with sat-nav on.

Can the charger make a difference? I am guessing not but thought I would ask. I am going to do exactly the same again tomorrow on the way to work and see what happens.

I think the average electric consumption is skewed by any ICE miles you do in the same journey... which is a bit annoying. So the total journey miles also needs to be taken into account. Im guessing 16kWh/100km is about 3.8 mi/kWh, which is an ok figure if the total journey was 37.4 miles and a >10kWh charge. Not so much if it was a lot more.
For example, a drive of mine the other day. One way all electric, the return journey a mixture of electric and sport (thru New Forest so not quick).

Headline figures of average 7.6 miles/kWh... would be happy with that!

I've decided best thing to do is just ignore the figures. Charge it up each night and use electric til it's all gone.

The difference between the range driving from home and driving from work might be because mornings tend to be colder. Temperature makes a big difference.

Good plan. 41.3 miles on electric is very good isn't it?

Also how did you get your display to show Mi/kWh?
