You can turn off the wireless charging in the IDrive settings.

When the hell was this implemented? Only thing I see is I can turn off the notification that you left the phone in the charger but nothing about turning off the charger

Its not just the charger. it has more variables to consider. For me the heating issue was due to cellular data accessed by multiple application in the background. (I used to have the same issue with my charger in X7 using iPhone 12). When I enabled hotspot, the heating stopped and I was able to use wireless charging for my recent long trip

Also its able to charge through some very thick cases, it charges my iPhone XR through OtterBox defender case just fine.

Maybe that must be country specific.

M340i without wireless charging have 2 microphones on the ceiling, 1 on each side , 2 USBs in the arm rest.

Go do yourself a favor, go to mous.co and get a case and charger vent mount. It's a fast charger and works light-years better than the BMW wireless charger.

Works well as a phone heater or sunglasses holder

Simply not worth it. Usb c charges very fast and the cable is only a minimal nuisance.

Haven't had any overheating issues with mine. Seems to work fine albeit quite a slow charge. I don't rely on it as my phone is charged via mains each night and this is sufficient to last a full day. I'd say it's handy to have so I would option it if was available but wouldn't be a deal breaker if it wasn't.

As some have said, it makes my phone overheat a little on 30+ minute drives. The USB-C ports charge my phone way faster and it's less of a fuss imo
