Costco/Sam's Club gas - wow

Hi all,

If you have a Costco or Sam's club nearby, I recommend buying gas from them (particularly if you are buying premium). It cost me $60 to join, but I am saving between $4 and $6 per tank. I just bought premium today for $1.99/gallon, other stations nearby are charging $2.49 or higher.

I have no affiliation with them, just impressed with the savings....

Not really any hoops if you shop there anyway.

Even better if you have the Citi Costco Card! 4% cash back for gas on the first $7,000 per year, then 1% after.

Let's see....

CA is ~$3.90 for premium
7000 / 3.9 = ~1,795 gallons of gas
~25 mpg of spirited driving
1795 * 25 = ~44,875 miles per year you'd have to drive to hit that 1% mark.

At 4% cash back, if the average driver hits 15,000 miles, that's ~$2,340 you're spending on gas per year, yielding ~$93.6 per year cash back.

I'll stick with my 3% cash back on everything Amex, I spend way more.

I don’t think he meant you have to spend $7000 on gas alone! I think $7000 credit card charges. If it is gas alone, then yes. It’s crazy.

And yes. Costco gas is good. I fill up from Costco when we go shopping there.

You get 4% cash back on the first $7000 spent in the year on gas from any gas station (which is doable if a household share this card exclusively to gas their cars). Then your gas cash back drops down to 1% until the next year.

Unlimited 3% cash back on food, 2% cash back on Costco purchases, and 1% cash back on everything else.

Gotcha. Yeah that's not half bad at all then especially if you're sharing it amongst family members.

I feel like Costco is all about sharing - like, everything they do is planned around buying in bulk and family planning not individual, so that makes sense.

Ahhh. So I was wrong. $7000 a year only on gas is way too much on gas for me given my limited driving

In my area, Costco is ALWAYS packed and honestly, too far away from my home. I'll pay a little more for convenience and less time spent waiting for a pump.

If you live close to one and frequently shop there that shit is a pretty awesome deal though.

Just put in E85 if you really want to save money on gas. Especially if it's a lease you don't intend to keep. I don't drive many miles at all, so it doesn't matter to me. Shell provides one of if not the best premium fuel, has lots of stations, never had to wait, and I like paying through the app (you can save 5-10c/gal too).

I run E25-27 and it gives me crappy mileage. But again. Idc though since I love how the car feels with some E85
