It does 0-62 How Fast!?!

I received a marketing e-mail from BMW promoting the new X3M and X4M Competition models this week.

The former apparently does 0-62 in 3.8 seconds.

It's a mid-range SUV FCS...

To be expected from the M model of the lineup, even if it's just midrange.

That's exactly what my car does 0-60, pretty damn impressive for a suv.

I know but the last few generations of M SUVs have been pretty batshit crazy, in a good way.

I was eying them F15 X5M when I thought I could afford it and even back then it was crazy numbers.

The 2nd to highest Mercedes GLC SUVs are 3.8 seconds, BMW pretty much had to hit that # to keep calling itself the performance brand.

The top end GLC 63S is 3.6.

But I wouldn't be surprised if BMW is under reporting and the BMW is a smidge faster.

I drove an X4M at UDE and was hitting speeds I shall not name. It's blindingly fast, too fast for public roads.

Damn that is quick... I did have a BMW SUV jump next to me the other day and it sounded nice and moved pretty damn good, but I still pulled on it but that is v8 twin turbo power for you :P

The issue on an SUV vs. sedan is not straight ahead speed...it is handling. Don't think that an X3 will handle around corners like a sedan and the fact that it can generate the same speed could lure you into thinking that it is better around corners than it is.

The F95 competition claims 617 hp. But since it's put down 615 hp on a dyno, rated hp should be around 700 hp.

If those small rigs turning those numbers is surprising to you, the Alpina XB7 would make you lose your mind. It’s that fast but don’t feel like your riding in the back seat of a school bus rough! It turns blistering numbers in total comfort.

Have people been living in a cave? Tesla has been dominating 0-62 for a while, if you care about that sort of thing.

..apart from Tesla isn't a complete domination as they aren't the fastest production car to 62.

I think the point here really is about the models in question and their speed.

I for one have been watching that show. I just have not been able to get my mind off the millions of scrapped golf carts out there because a new cart ain’t much more than new batteries! Then the guy blowing up his Tesla in defiance of the 30k in batteries it needs. Not hating on them at all but I still kind of like to hear vroom vroom when I floor it.

Yeah our X7 M50i with the dynamic handling package makes the nimble nature of the M4 look like child's play.

They should've incorporated the dynamic handling into more vehicles that sport an M badge.

I still recall when I rode shotgun with instructors at Monticello in their x5m safety cars. Eating curbs and drifting corners for multiple laps, not once did the chassis felt unbalanced or grip was lacking. It may not handle “as well” as an m3/4/5 but it certainly did not feel like a “suv” either.
