I was going to go with 18", but saw quite a few people mention 19s. Looks like a lot of people like the Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3 tires. The review on tire rack indicate their sidewalls don't hold up to potholes well...which we have a lot in Chicago.

The last set of snows I ran was on my GTI 7 years ago. I believe they were the Altimax which help up great and provided a lot of traction. My biggest complaint on those was they were a little noisy.

RoyB, I can't predict the future, but I can tell you my past experience. For the last 3 years I've had two sets of wheels/tires: 19" MB OEM wheels with Pirelli P Zero summer run flats, and 18" no-name tire rack wheels with Pirelli Winter Sottozero tires. In the three years of ownership, driving around NYC and surrounding areas, I've busted the sidewalls 6 (six!) times on the Pirelli SUMMER tires and cracked the 19" MB OEM rims 6 times as well. On my 18" no-name wheels with Winter Sottozero, I have had ZERO issues. So, from my perspective, there is a real benefit to the 18" wheels.

That's pretty crazy. I downsized to 18" wheels on my Golf R and the ride was 100% better, plus never got a flat. Too bad the offset is different or I would try the 18s with summers on the M340 to see how it rides.

Ordered the Pierelli Sottozeros mounted on 18" MSW type 73s in gloss grey. I would had preferred the machined/grey look but wasn't avail in 18s.

I didn't like any of Discount Tires wheels or I would probably had gone with the Michelin Alpin PA4s from them.

Total with TPS and tax was about $1500 which seems pretty reasonable.

I went ahead and ordered the daughter a set tire/wheel set for her Jeep Renegade. Sadly, those were almost as much!

Do you know the offset on those? I was looking at getting 18 x 8 Sparco Terra on 225/45/18, but the offset on those are 35 and I wasn't sure how they would fit.

Hi all,
I was wondering if any one could advise if this setup for winter would fit the M performance cooling & tire brakes M340

It appears to have the same specs as the OEM 796 Winter offering from the stealership that people have mentioned.

Just double verifying.

Thanks in Advance

I'm really stuck with what I should do as well. 2020 m340i xdrive on stock squared 19in rims w/ P7 all seasons. They are about to go soon.

I am thinking of 1/3 options,
1) buy another pair of runflat all seasons on same rims,
2) buy snow tires on same rims and switch to summer tires on same rims, or
3) splurge and use my 19s with snow tires and then upgrade to 20in black rims on summer tires this upcoming spring.

My only concern is that I have a semi-frequent 120 mile roundtrip commute where I have to be at work no matter what. For anyone that lives in MI/OH we have problems with potholes.

I was set on 19’s but decided that I’d see how much better the ride is on 18’s. I’m normally staggered but going Michelin PA4s 235/40/18 non run flats on Replika alloy wheels. I keep about $400 in my pocket by going with the 18’s as well.

Do you like spending money? Option (3) is a terrible idea. You live in MI. MI collects potholes on their roads like it's a point of pride for the state. One pothole and there go your wheels with 20". I'm already concerned with 19"s here in WI.

I'd get a pair of 18" wheels and throw winters on them. Then I'd throw some summers when your RFT All-seasons need it or this summer when you want to feel what your G20 is really capable of.

Run-flats and all-seasons really don't let you feel the full car. It was night and day on my F30 when I went from the crap-tier RFT/AS that come with the car to MPS4S'.

If you want to save money, you can keep the same wheels and just swap back and forth from winters to summers and back or get something like the new MPSAS4's. After swapping on the same wheels for my F30, I think I'd rather have wheels and tires matches. Just extra wear and tear on the wheels and tires to pop them on and off every season. Plus it's easier to keep your summer wheels nice when they aren't getting sloshed around in the salt and snow all winter.

If you really enjoy sporty driving go for option 3 in 19s or 20s because it will allow you to upgrade to get the wider staggered rear size. The squared setup neuters the handling of the car with the skinny rear tires. Even if you put top of the line ps4s on the balance won't be the same as the factory staggered width setup

I just installed my kit and I think it is FANTASTIC. Highly recommended for a performance OEM look. I bought via Tire Rack for a little under $2k pre-tax including TPMS. Installed without any issues, perfectly balanced, and tires seem to handle quite well even in today's dry 60F weather here. I live up a bunch of hills and drive in typical cold wet conditions with occasional snow and will also do some trips into the mountains. My car is an xDrive.

MSW (OZ) Type 73 wheels, 5x112
Centerbore 72.6(?) Hub center rings included for BMW 66.6, fits snug
19 x 8 ET30 square setup
Wheel bolts included look like a slightly larger cone seat than OEM bolts so I used them (although they're silver)
BMW center caps fit perfectly

Pirelli Sottozero 3 performance winter tires
Size 235/40/19 (1.2% taller than OEM square setup)

This setup compared to OEM by the numbers pushes toward outer fender by 2 mm in the front and sits at the fender the same in the rear although looks like a couple mm pushed out.

Bolt torque 103 ft-lb
Tire pressure 38 PSI all around

Winter Setup: 19" 791M wheels, staggered setup, with Pirelli Sottozero 3 R-F tires.

Has anybody else with the Sottozero 3 tires noticed an increase in road/tire noise compared to their summer setup?

Mounted them up yesterday. Only complain is the rim sticking past the tire. I wish I had sized up the tire to a 235 like I did with summers to give a flush look.

Winter Setup - Squared BMW M Performance 18 inch style 796M black wheels with Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3 R-Fs. These are alittle more noisy than the Pirelli P7s that are mounted to the stock 19" 791M wheels.

Not a big fan of the sottozero3 I had them mounted for les than 500 miles before I swapped them with PS A/S3. Bad traction and very soft sidewall.
