Does JB4 void warranty
Hi guys,
I'm new M340I owner, got mine 3 days ago, but I'm a tunning maniac and even that the car is quite fast I already want to tunne it. I stopped on JB4 as there are few videos in youtube of M340XI with JB4 doing 0-60 mph for 3.5 sec which is just amazing. I really want to put a JB4 however the car have warranty until 02.2023 and I really don't want to lose it. Does any one have any idea if placing JB4 void warranty? Thanks and have a nice weekend . |

Welcome and congrats on the new vehicle!
There are many other threads posted on this topic in this forum. I suggest doing a search and reading those

Only if it's the root cause. Rules also change from country to country so I would look into that.
In CA, it must be proven by the manufacturer that the modification was the cause of the damage. So for example, if you suspension clunks and you have JB4, BMW cannot simply blame the JB4 and not help you. However, if you experience ecu issues, and repairs are required, this is where they will most likely ask you to pay out of pocket and possibly void the rest of your powertrain warranty. The good news is that Dinan and Burger products have been proven and rarely cause issues. Take a look at the F30 forums, very rare for these products to damage something, the G20 is no different. |

Any tune is detectable if the dealership interrogate the DME. There will be manipulate graphs for air and fuel. It won't match an OEM car. Just because it can be hot swapped it doesn't make you immune. Given the choice between a new engine and blaming the customer the dealer will always establish the cause and may even blame the modification.

This is just a cut and paste with a couple minor additions of a response I shared a couple days back that generally touched on the same topic - hope this helps.
CliffNotes (I'm dating myself):
So at the end of the day and getting back to your question....can you do any modification that that will not be detected (either proactively or by reverse engineering)? No you can't (at least I can't think of one). Should you care? Up to you Last edited by chenry; 10-28-2020 at 10:51 AM.. |

It's not worth it I guess, I know those cars are strong but still something can defect in Engine/Transmission and I really don't wanna pay for it. I guess next 3-5 years the car will be stock.

No that's the biggest fallacy, if the engine pops the claim will be sent to BMWNA who will run scans etc and determine the cause, your local dealer will only do what they are paid for.

So Tune = and engine/transmission goes boom = you pay money to fix or you commit fraud and get away with it (which is way harder to do now with all the tuner detection and data collection by BMW) Tune= ac/battery goes bad you are all good |

So in my case I got 3 years factory warranty here in Europe and after the 3 years I can pay 800 Euro for 2 years additional. Which leaves me 5 years bone stock . |
