How interchangeable are the steering wheel buttons?

Hi folks,

I have a G29, but it’s the same steering wheel. My car has ACC, with extra +/- buttons on the steering wheel in the left pod, to adjust the cruise distance.

I’d like to replace it with a heated wheel (I know it will require coding), but at the moment I can’t find one with ACC and heat on eBay.

So my question is, can I simply transfer the left button pod and associated wiring from my non-heated wheel to the new one? And therefore retain the ACC function, and gain the heat function.

I’d love to hear your thoughts…

Yes, you should be able to transfer your switch button pod(s) as long as the steering wheels are the same styles (e.g. M-Sport).

Two caveats:

1) Make sure your "Steering Wheel Switch Cluster" (or coil spring) has connector A83*4B (see 1st attached). Your vehicle should have this connector since there is only one part number for the coil spring (61319459924).

2) Make sure your "Electronics Steering Wheel Module" has the two additional connectors required for the heated steering wheel (A69*2B and A69*4B) or a minimum of 3 connectors (61317857777 or 61317857778 depending on vehicle options). See 2nd attached.

Note, you may have to run a utility in ISTA+ to discover additional LIN resources/reconfigure the LIN bus.

Much obliged! This is very useful info...

I will need to investigate the presence of the steering column (coil spring) connector first.

The steering wheels I am looking at have the lower spoke covered by the trim so I cannot tell if they have both connectors present, but since they have a dedicated heating button on them, I am guessing they do.

If your OEM steering wheel has the vibration actuator, make sure the heated steering wheels you are looking also has this functionality. FYI, there are two Electronics Steering Wheel Modules that support heating: without (61317857777) and with (61317857778) vibration actuator control....

Mission accomplished. Found a wheel on ebay out of germany, installed it at home in 15 min and had someone do the coding.

Thank you all for your help!

And, I'll have my non-heated M Sport wheel up for sale in the classifieds soon, real cheap.
