Ordered a 2021 M340i 48V

Pulled the trigger on another M340i to hold me over until the 2022 M3 Comp AWD is available. I am really curious to see how the 48V system changes the car.

Has anyone either taken delivery of a 2021 MY G20 or seen one in the flesh at a dealership? I'm wondering if there's a holdup related to EPA fuel economy ratings.

EPA website has only the 330e listed, but none of the other G20 model trims. https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/Powe...es&srchtyp=ymm

There is a spreadsheet on the EPA site that lists the 2021 M340 models as certified. My local dealers don't seem to know when they will be available.

The EPA website lists the '21 M340i, you just need to go under "M" models, not the 3 series.

You can see it here.

Thanks. I was looking under "3 series", not "M". Silly me.

Looks like the 48V mild hybrid provides a slight boost in economy. Odd that the results aren't proportionate between RWD and AWD.

2020 M340i RWD: 22/30
2021 M340i RWD: 23/32

I would chat with your store's sales manager about this. I was looking for a German-built car (Dravit) and I was told the next available build allocation was for January! Assuming that's accurate, that would explain why you don't have a production number.

I have been and they keep telling me the build will start September and the car should be here before Christmas...
Thanks for the input!

The plant was closed for the majority of August as they retooled for the i4.

That said, I was originally September but that got pushed to October now.

US spec cars built in Germany have specific weeks that they are built.

Yesterday, they actually mentioned it would be probably January SOP on my vehicle.
I bought one off their lot instead and am happy with it.

Yes, this was also my experience. Unless you have a German allocation in hand, with a production number already, you will be waiting until January at least for it to enter production. Otherwise only NA builds available.

Yeah thankfully I have a production number... let's hope that I'm not delayed further.

I just did the same, couldn’t go through with the G22 M440i.

JayPichardo has your car arrived yet? Can you comment on the 2021s exhaust vs the 2020s?

This is the $64,000 question. Yes, please tell us your impressions of the exhaust, compared to the '20.

I'm not Jay, but I've driven both the 2020 and 2021. I do not notice any difference in the exhaust. The engine and exhaust sound and behave exactly the same other than the start/stop system.

That's encouraging. This thread makes it sound like the '21s have lost any pops/bangs/burbles. Possibly due to different tuning.

Yep, like you, I'm going to be annoyed if my car doesn't sound like the 2020's. That's a big part of why I bought the car. I want to be able to hear my daily driver.

Same. BMW is going to have a lot of unhappy customers if they indeed changed it.
