The new 6 is supposed to have an in-line 6 cylinder with mild hybrid putting the power to the rear wheels.

I'm looking forward to it and how it compares to BMW. Before this, I had a 2015 Mazda 3 and I really enjoyed driving it as well as the interior so I have high hopes for the 6.

Interesting. I've owned a few Mazda's. I always had good luck with them.

They are going to need to find a way to incorporate a bigger grille though. It's all about grille size these days.

It used to be smiley faced grilles and ZOOM ZOOM!

That concept in the OP picture looks great but doesn't quite match up with the article. Also, noticed the lack transmission options.. with the 3 turbo going auto only it's not looking promising.

The picture I posted is the concept and that article one might look more like the production version. Who knows tho, they're being pretty tight lipped about it.

And yeah, I doubt it comes with a manual.

I had a manual 2016 Mazda 3. Transmission was awful with the 2.5L motor. I think that car would have been better as an automatic.

This is a car I'm eagerly awaiting for, as well as its rumored platform-mate the RX-9 which will also hopefully come to fruition.

My son owns an NB Miata, a new 6 Signature, and his wife has a CX-9. Mazda is making some pretty damn excellent cars, especially in the drive, and the design inside and out, and people seem to finally be realizing that (at least with the CX-5). They are honestly the only Japanese brand it seems who haven't jumped off the deep end with styling (looking at you Toyota and Honda). He loves the cars, and honestly they are extremely nice for the price, I've driven his 6, and it drives excellently for a FWD Mid-sized sedan, and the interior honestly is nicer than the M340i loaner I had, not to mention the Soul Red Crystal is beutiful.

Apparently they also patented an 8-speed transmission along with the Inline-6, and of course its also rumored that the I6 will be used in a possible next-generation Supra since Toyota not only is partnering with Mazda but also has stake in the company. Either way, I always love to root for an underdog, and I think Mazda deserves the best, really hoping they end succeeding. Also, can we get an I6 Miata?

RWD + inline 6 is winning in my book.

My wife has a Mazda CX-5 and it’s great and surprisingly sporty for what it is. Only thing hold it back is the dated 6 speed auto tranny.

I’ve been waiting on this for quite a while now and it might be a long term daily driver for me. Not a fan of the mild hybrid part but I definitely am all in on a rwd NA 6 with 3 pedals with some modern day tech and refinement from a Japanese manufacturer that is oriented towards sportiness. Plus it looks quite good, cars today have too much going on to attract attention.

I have a 2017 Mazda MX5 RF. I agree with where Mazda is at right now.

IMHO they're where BMW was back in the late 80's, early 90's.

Building fun, solid reliable cars.

I Love my RF as much as I love my M2C. I also am wondering what the new Mazda 6 will end up being....

I think the one thing holding Mazda back is their dealerships.

I’m excited for this. Finally a mainstream brand willing to make a RWD sports sedan.

Nice. I6s are making a comeback in general, MB now has one and now Mazda will. Hopefully, with all this competition BMW will start innovating again.

This will be my next family car if they don't screw it up some how. I'm wondering if the mild hybid is replacing the supercharger in the Skyactive-X line or if it will will be in addition to it. Either way, a FR inline 6 with Mazda driving dynamics and price is hard to beat.

I’ve always liked Mazda and we owned a 2017 Mazda CX-9 that we really enjoyed before it got totaled

My huge issue with Japanese cars is always transmission. Doesn’t matter how good the chassis and engine is, if the transmission isn’t on par with that ZF transmission which the Germans use then it could be disappointing to drive in a spirited fashion.

Yeah the Japanese struggle with automatic transmissions. Most of them these days come with CVT or an AT that is subpar compared to the ZF8.
