There is an option in the settings so that the dash stays the same/default colors regardless of driving mode.

Thanks for the insight. I still have the loaner. Will explore the setting this evening.

No sms support, low speed transmission is brutal, metal knobs/buttons get lava hot in the summer. Seat is uncomfortable - the lumbar support system is awful. Almost everything is in the wrong place, ergonomically. My dealer sucks. I absolutely would not buy this car again.

It looks nice though.

Really hate that you can't completely shut down the screens without locking the door. For my old 2016 320i, you just need to push the start/stop button 2 times, then everything is off. For this new car, if i open the passenger side door to get things out after the car is off (without locking), all the screens will turn back on and it simply just won't shut down. I park my car in the garage and never lock it, so this is really frustrating...
All you have to do is hold the volume button and it will turn the ignition off... I had that same concern but upon asking around I found to turn the ignition off you just have to hold the VOL button..

There is also a option in iDrive to shut down when the doors are open. However it won't until the passenger also opens their door.

Yes, CarPlay can be a little buggy but it works just fine for me most of the time. I still can't get used to the Lane Assistant pulling me back to Center and have not decided if it is a good thing or not.

You can adjust its sensitivity or turn it off. Considering that it only works above 40 mph (I think) I’ve used it as a opportunity to remember to use my turn signals become then it doesn’t activate. Also have it set on the lowest level.

Coming from the pre-LCI E90:

Goods
  • Looks nice
  • Handles well
  • Rigid body
  • Doesn't feel as heavy as my E90
  • iDrive + voice assistant works well
  • Responsive touchscreen
  • Laser headlights
  • Ambient lights

Bads
  • Logic 7 (HK) audio is not as good as the one on the E90 (Especially the FM quality)
  • Buggy wireless Carplay
  • Jerky transmission at low speeds
  • Electric steering
  • Side mirrors are a bit too large
  • No sunroof improvements

I tried to find the setting which would allow the instrument panel to be lit in orange color. Could not find it.

What makes you think there's such an option? AFAIK there's not. You can either set it to have it the same color throughout all driving modes or you can have the driving mode decide the color. But you cannot set the color yourself to anything you like.

Comfort mode - orange color. Sport mode - white color. I was trying to set orange color for all modes. Somehow.

Can you give an example on why you find the electric steering bad, preferably compared to the E90?

I have yet to experience the jerky transmission at low speeds, maybe that's a 330 type thing but I got the M340 and mine is very smooth at low speeds, unless your in sport but that's normal cause of how sensitive the throttle response it..

Electric steering racks will just never have the same feel and connectivity as a hydraulic rack.

But that ship has sailed for everyone. The G20 steering is miles better than the last gen.

After driving G20 330i loaner (with zero options) for one week, I am looking forward to getting back into my F36 440i GC.

Thoughtful conclusions: 4 cylinder engine falls short for me, G20 doors close with a more solid thud than F36 doors, G20 base suspension tries be everything to all road conditions resulting in a busy excessively oscillating ride, door storage compartments are a bit narrow, same applies to the storage compartment in front of the gear shift, strangely enough the left rear seat belt was twisted (lack luster quality control?), more pronounced oversteer in the majority of conditions (not always a welcome change).

M340i would be a more fair comparison of course.

As I was driving to the dealer returning the loaner G20 330i, I realized that the seat belt pretensioner is activated shortly after beginning to move. My F36 doesn't do this and I prefer the seat belt not to pre-tension at all. Is this a G20 feature?

Yes, but also not just a BMW G20 thing. General safety development.

I am glad my F36 doesn't have this feature.

I love the exterior of the car, reminds me of a 5 series in a lot of angles. The space inside is also very roomy, compared to my previous Infiniti Q50.
The technology in this car is insane, it comes with so many features that I still haven't gotten used to yet. This is also my very first BMW I've ever owned so it's a great impression.
Some things I don't like about it so far would just be that the navigation is kind of weird as the nav arrow keeps switching directions when I'm driving. I'm used to the standard Navigation where the arrow points forward at all times and does not zoom in and out.

So far everything has been great!

This happened to me in the M340i during the first week of ownership and then it never happened again. I was driving away from work in sport mode after it sat in front of my office all day and it was jerking pretty hard as I drove away. Never happened again after that.... although i never put it in sport mode to start a trip anymore. I feel like the aggressive throttle map of sport plus on a cold transmission was to blame. I have no intention of testing my theory, just glad it only did it to me once.

Isn't that simply the setting you are using. You do have options.
