Other drivers are trying to race me in my M340i
I've made 3 commutes in our M340 over the last week, every time someone tried to race me. It's incredibly annoying. Yesterday some teenager in a Lexus GX570 was trying to get me to race him, took off as fast as he could, hit the hazard lights as if he won then cut over 2 lanes to the right, then immediately back across 5 lanes of traffic almost hitting 2 cars to turn left in a 35 zone, probably doing 80. After that an SRT Challenger was next to me at a stop light and took off smoking the tires and almost lost control into oncoming traffic. Then another teenager in a 335i thought I was trying to race when I just wanted to get in front of him because I had to turn.
Does anyone else have issues with this? I've never had these issues in another car. Not sure if it's because the car is bight blue, if it's the M340 badge, or just bad luck this weekend. It's my girlfriends daily driver and she has the same issues. We've only had the car for a week. Does removing M340i badge help with this? Trying to decide if we should try putting on a 330i badge or just remove the M? |

This sucks, personally what I would do is remove the entire engine, find a Honda Civic shell, swap motors, and not even drive the bmw but still continue to make your monthly payments if not it'll affect your credit. Once engine is swapped into the civic remove the badges from the bmw and apply them to a 330i with the same color and take his so complete your conversion. You will never have this problem worrying about other people trying to race you. Good luck let me know if you need anything else

I’ve never had this problem with my black M4 so I’m guessing it’s the color.

I had an estoril blue M3 years ago and didn't have this issue. But that was in Ohio where not a lot of teenagers are driving nice cars. Where I am now teenagers seem to get about anything they ask for and the main road through the area has a stoplight every 1/8th - 1/4 mile. Maybe it's just a combination of the color/area but it's annoying.

I have an Estoril Blue II 340i right now, and over 3 years I've had a few people try to race me, but not that many. I also have the MPPSK, so when I drive it in Sport mode it sounds pretty loud.
Not sure if the M badge would make it any different, but I don't expect any differences when I take delivery of my Portimao Blue M340i. |

It's not just the M340i as where I am in NYC I get the same thing all the time in my 340i. I drive aggressively but people with anything from a base model Altima to a lambo things I'm trying to race them...
I just let them do their thing and speed off into the distance or turn off somewhere. Doesn't bother me anymore as long as they don't cut me off or something.

Even older M cars were barely different from their non-M counterparts with just necessary wider fenders and some minor revisions on the bumper covers and a side vent. |

It has dropped off a lot now that the F30 is the previous model, you guys are in for a few years of it haha. Tint helped immensely as well.

Haha, I doubt it, but maybe. When I was young and had an M3 I'd put any M328/330's I saw in their place. It's crazy so many people have experienced this! Our last BMW was a black 328i and over 3 years no one ever tried to race me in it and I never had issues in Ohio with any car. I'll try taking the badges off and see if it helps. Doubt it's the badge or the number that follows. Average person doesn't know the difference between the models or could tell a 340 from a 330 or 320. I think most people assume BMW as being sporty and fast. Also, maybe just a coincidence. Same time and place. My 0.02

i'm also a bay area driver. no attempts to race me or troll me yet in 4 weeks of ownership.... all fast cars seem to respect each other in my area.
having said that, bay area drivers in the ~200hp commuter cars/SUVs are the biggest trolls. impatient, cutting everyone off and not using their blinkers. you'll be getting cut off and trolled by these drivers no matter what car you drive, they don't care. i've been using the driver assistant pro feature so much lately i'm not sure i would notice if someone was trying to race me. i definitely anticipate some college age kids in their chargers, challengers, mustangs to challenge me eventually. that's what they live for. |

Actually...BMW and Audi have sort of flipped.
The Audi S4 use to really distinguish itself from the A4...more aggressive fenders...grill...mirror caps...V6T (or Supercharged) badges on front fenders. Whereas the BMW six cylinder 335i/340i were very hard to tell from the 320i and 330is. Especially when so many 320is and 330is had the Msport packages. But 340i had same grill, no front fender badging. Now its the opposite...the new B9 S4 is very toned down...gone are the V6T badges...gone are the Supercharged badges...its stance much closer to an A4. the G20 340i...followed the Audi S4 B8 playbook. Add the M badge to make it an M340I...different front grill...more aggressive touches...different mirror caps. Its like Audi and BMW got together and said "lets swap marketing playbooks". The S4 will now take the 340i approach and tone it down...the 340i will take the S4 approach and really try and differentiate itself from the 330i ala badging and mirror caps and grill. |
