ECU Tune- Carbahn or Dinan +
Hi Everyone, I decided to try to get an ECU tune for my M340i. I am thinking about Carbahn or Dinan +. Both come with a warranty. Currently Carbahn is on sale for $1,200, and Dinan is $1,100. Does anyone have any opinion over performance and quality? Can't decided between these two.

The specs and price are really similar, not to mention Steve Dinan's connection to both. I have the Carbahn flash which I got specifically because of the warranty and was installed by the originating BMW dealer; I love it. I would be very surprised if there was any noticeable difference between the two.

I just don't understand one thing. Carbahn says 471 flywheel HP and 509 LB/FT flyewheet torque. When looking at their dyno graph it says 391.22 HP and 422 torque. Stock values given hp/tq - 344/380.
On Dinan website crank numbers are 410HP and 407 LB/FT which is consistent with at crank dyno graph, stock 353/347. They also show at wheel HP that show 361 HP and 380 LB/FT, stock 311/317. How should I compare? I am new to this. Last edited by camilowsky; 04-15-2021 at 10:00 PM.. |

I'm confused, the warranty is only for the 91 map, yet your fuel guide says "You may use a higher octane than prescribed by the tune. For example, running 93 Octane on a 91 Octane program is fine, and in some cases may offer a bump in performance."
If i get the Dinan +, 91 map, and run 93 does that affect the warranty? |

So I just found out that real Dinan + numbers are 470 flywheel HP and 509 LB/FT torque.. so I guess choice is clear then. Plus currently if you tune through Carbahn you lose remote start... they are just working on patch for it.

What multiplier percentage is Dinan using to establish flywheel HP and LB/FT? Meaning they obtained some WHP LB/FT numbers and then estimated flywheel based on a percentage multiplier. They (Dinan/Holley) are conservative by nature so I imagine it's maybe 9% or so??

Then you should go Carbahn - Dinan now is just a cog in the wheel for the Holley corporation and is based in Alabama - Steve Dinan is in NorCal. Here you go...I think you can find Dinan in the Holley conglomerate somewhere

Yes we are now based in AL and share a campus with APR making our location the Euro HQ for the group but we were in the bay area for 38 years (til 2018) so our ties there are still pretty fresh. And yes, we are one of many brands in the Holley portfolio that is seemingly growing everyday (AEM was added late last week). As with everything, that has its upsides and downsides but I would say there is more positive then negative. Greater buying power, more resources, synergies (yeah, I used it) with other sister companies, etc. The only perpetual "negative" is a strict adherence to emissions laws given the sheer size of the group and the target that that presents. That has been a pain for some brands but not nearly as much of a problem for Dinan seeing as that has been part of our DNA already for quite some time. |

So I was looking at the dyno graphs of both the Carbahn and Dinan tunes for their 91oct (That's most likely what we'd be running most of the time).
It looks like the Carbahn tune might possibly edge out Dinan in terms of gains? I know the numbers don't match up because of different dynos/conditions/etc, but just looking at the delta, it looks like Dinan is about 20hp over stock at peak, about +40hp in the mid-range. Carbahn is about +50hp over stock and also about +40hp in the mid-range. Source: https://www.dinancars.com/products/s.../D900-B58-G-S1 https://carbahnautoworks.com/product...i-g14-g15-g16/ tell me if my finding are correct. |

Okay so you made me look and what I see is with the Dinan stage 1 91 flash and/or the Dinan + (also on 91 with warranty option) it's actually a 22HP (or about 5%) gain so a bit more than what you thought. I base this on the link you shared to the Dinan site (here's a screen shot) info. Carbauhn is a little bit more of a challenge so I'll look at that tomorrow. Like you, if I'm wrong with what I am seeing, please anyone let me know. I think for a warrantied optioned tune this is strong at 22HP
ps- it looks like if you go with 93 (I'm not sure if this is a warranty option in that if falls under the Stage 1 but not the Dinan+) you can pick up 32 HP which is even better - so with people who have access to higher octane those numbers are more attractive Last edited by RTPenland; 04-21-2021 at 01:52 AM.. Sigh, yup. I discovered that almost immediately after picking up my car after the install. Still no solution at the moment.

Has it been confirmed that remote start is retained after Dinan flash? If so that's cool
