Hardly a big upgrade. Both are ok. Manufacturers seem to be putting all their design expertise in their Electric car dept. Some really nice designs coming out at Geneva show when you see them in the flesh

Much needed change.
F30 looked nice when optioned up but most were quite meh. The design wasn't much different from the E90 inside or out which is why it aged quickly. |

They threw tradition away on this one, looks wise. Yes people will adapt eventually, but holy fucking eyesore. There's just way too much happening. What happened to use fewer, but stronger body lines? What happened to the angel eyes? Those headlights look like such an afterthought considering that was where most of the front end personality was from on previous generations. & don't even mention the 6MT.... Now we just have some huge fugly grilles. Winning recipe out the window Here's hoping the LCI will be much better.

I think the G20 is better all around, but the design is a little "busy" for my tastes. The Merc and the audi both look classy compared to the G20. The interior is the biggest improvement as was expected. I'm more pissed they won't be offering a touring or a 6MT in the M340i.

hmmmm. hate to say it but I think all the German saloons are going soft looking.
I wanted to like this but am struggling. the f30/f80 were good looking cars with sharp lines, the new 3 series feels very rounded in appearance, more like the C class. I've seen it in person also at a preview night and while it is a better than what the photos suggest I still prefer the f series. hope they only improve with the LCI and even more so with the g80...

not really a good comparison since this g20 has been through a pdi and still has the spacers in the springs and the plastic on.

You know, the F30 has a "sharper" front end if that makes sense. The G20 looks softer and more bulbous...
Not really a fan of either in this trim - looking forward to the G80.

so many butt hurt G20 owners. F30 is better period. See where I am going with this? Each person has own opinion on what they like. Who are you to tell them which is correct.
Both look better than E90 in my opinion. |

G20 looks just so much bulkier in every dimension. I know its a bigger car but in the pictures it really looks quite bigger.
Is the consensus that it drives well? Most of what I've read is that its better than F30 but nobody has said amazing yet. |

What do you think the 3 and 5 year depreciation is going to be on a $60k 4cyl?
Anyone who gets one, I hope you lease it. In 3 years BMW is going to be eating some residuals. |

I also really had to pound the gas to get it going. I mainly drove in Sport + in manual mode, the reverse tach wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. But after turning around, I put it in comfort/automatic and it really felt like I was pushing more car. Also so many driver aids-- I tried changing lanes at speed, and the car pushed me back into my lane-- it thought I didn't know what I was doing. I think the 6 cyl will be a really good fit for this chassis, and the interior was extremely comfy. |

Still, I know it's subjective but think the e36 sedan or e90 pre-LCI can probably wear the worst 3er ever in the looks department - the e36 hasn't aged well at all asides from the M3, which still looks good. |

As this thread progresses, the number of diverging opinions will surely increase.
One common observation: Portimao Blue is one of nicest shades of blue. |
