Don't have link to a English site, but where I live the cost for a retrofit of laser headlights and auto high beam will set you back DKK 25.000 at BMW dealer.

Someone tried it on an X5

It looks plug and play but requires coding. Brand new each light is £6k apparently from BMW.

Also no official retrofit available (UK at least) so a dealer won't do it.

And you'll run into warranty issues no doubt.

Official dealer and you will keep the warranty so no issues there and much cheaper than the UK alternative.

Wow. Thanks for sharing.

I'll stand corrected but that's definitely not available in the UK from the dealer as a retrofit. But shows it can be done.

Also noticed BMW DK actually list the M performance options and packages with a price. Wish BMW UK did that so dealers knew what was what.

Yes. There are a lot of people who have done a G20 laser light retrofit here in China cuz BMW China do not offer an OEM laser light.

Actually it's cheaper having them retro fitted than having them ordered from the factory due to the taxation in DK - 🤯

Really? How is that?

In Germany and Croatia, Lasers are around 1000€ more expensive than adaptive LED.
In terms of taxes in Croatia, the impact of adding laser lights is minimal. Maybe a 100€ (sales tax, one-time expense). The biggest influence on the tax amount is the CO2 output of the engine, as the ecology is the most significant multiplicator for car tax over here.

It's due to taxation of car and factory fitted equipment thats the cause.
Take the Laserlight.
Laser light factory fitted cost around DKK39.000 Laser light retro fitted cost DKK 25.000
That's almost DKK 15.000 less 🤯 to spend on more goodies

There are laser beam generating units behind each headlight, and all you really getting is better looking DRL's.
Lasers coming on only at speeds over 40 mph, and off every time there are any sort of lights ahead of you if you press adaptive light button on the stalk, which you should.

Here's an interesting video explaining the differences between Halogen / LED / Matrix LED / Laser (BMW).

Most interesting part: a direct comparison between High Beam Matrix LED vs High Beam Laser.

After watching it, I'm now wondering if it's not just a simple marketing trick from BMW. Is it worth the money and all the hassle trying to retrofit them? I don't think so.

From my personal experience on G20, Adaptive LED is a major upgrade over basic LED headlights. If selective-beam is not something that you can use all the time, Lasers are not a major upgrade over Adaptive LED because their real-life output is almost identical (+-5%).

If you use selective beam all the time, then Lasers make a difference. If not. Adaptive LED combined with high-beam assist will do the job as it's light output is more than enough to allow comfortable driving at 140-150km/h on the autobahn on the low beam.

Garage List
You have to drive a car with Lasers to see the real difference on country roads and motorways. Now I have them can't imagine not having them as combined with adaptive cruise control it's hassle free driving but I agree they are a costly option especially if a light unit needs replacing.
