Tire upgrade = life changing
2020 M340i xdrive
I just upgraded from 225 stock all around runflats to 235 all around Pilot Sports 4S non-runflats. The car feels much better at speed (130mph), grip and handling feels about twice as good. Small bumps in the road are eaten up better in all suspensions modes. This is my first set of good tires on my first sports/sporty car and it's makes a huge difference. Definitely get good tires. |

Yep, you're late to the party lol, night and day difference. Curse BMW for giving us these crappy run flats all seasons and then having the audacity to cut top speed. Nobody else in the industry uses these narrow tires on a car of this caliber as if we are driving Nissan Versa's. Whomever thought this was ok should be fired.

Nice! I live in PA and am tired of flipping summer/winter tires so I got the all seasons, didn't realize they would be H-rated touring tires. As mentioned previously, an absolute travesty BMW would use such a shitty tire on this car.
Replacing soon... |

Anyone know why TireRack has 255 rear options only for standard tires for the MY2021's? Does this mean that if you opt for the non-rft option 18's from the factory then you still get the wider rear tires?

This is why I went with the ZTK package, as it puts these exact tires on the vehicle.
I would never ride on a run flat in a performance vehicle. Ever. https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1602609

The reason BMW offers the other tires is to appease the masses. Your average driver thinks an all season tire is fine. It's not. I was on the parkway in Pittsburgh with a 330 loaner and all seasons. I was going 3mph. I'd touch the brakes, and abs would kick in and I'd slide 10 feet at a time. All seasons stink regardless.

The limiter is at 155 not 130 and it's not big or clever on a public road (autobahn aside) especially considering you were trailing new tyre setup very unwise, stay safe, learn you car and your limitations i guarantee you will run out of talent one day and at those speeds kill someone innocent.

Nice one OP! The staggered go-flat PS4S is my permanent summer tire choice for my last two 3-series. It is just so damn good!

But the speed limiter is 130 on the square run flat all season setup. Only if you get the Zhp cooling package or summer performance tires do you get 155 limit |

Didn't even know that's how they determined the limiter or I would've gotten the upgrades tires. On the m3 I'll make sure there's no limit, still 2 more years on my lease though. |

If you spec the car with summer tires you get the wider rear set (better handling)

After only 250 miles and a lot of research, in November I replaced the staggered P7 runflat summer tires on my new M440i with Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 non-runflat all season tires. A much smoother and quieter ride, and... they have very good performance grip (certainly not track worthy), have amazing traction in the rain, and stop on a dime. Hoping to not really test them in light snow, but I know I will soon enough. |

When I got rid of my 435 I tried swapping winter tires and summer tires out. It's like night and day. You'll find a million threads here, but all seasons sacrifice a lot of traction in the winter and summer to play both sides of the fence. Here is a pic of my F30 335 xdrive ( I got after my 435) driving through over a foot of snow to ski. I would have gotten stuck in all seasons

I most definitely do not disagree with you that there is performance lost on both extremes. However, in St. Louis we average a dozen "light" snow events each winter, usually less than a few inches, and most of which I can sit out the first day if I need to. On the other extreme, unlike some immature folks... while I drive with gusto, I'm not about to push 130 mph on public roadways or otherwise overdrive my all season tires on dry pavement. Like I said, it's just a matter of how we drive and where.
Love the pic of your car in the snow though. |
