I feel validated. M340i is a new, more comfortable E9x M3.

Fuck, time to sell my e90 m3 now. I'm more surprised the Civic isn't higher up that list just based on other reviews I've read and testimonials from friends.

I don't take this as a slight to the E90, it's just more of a testament to the 340. At its time the E90 was heads and shoulders above the competition in every way, and this was basically a universal fact in the automotive world.

Lol at RC F
What about the RCF?
I would have taken my RCF over my E92 any day of the week.

That is impressive! You guys have to admit how great it is that the level continues to rise rather than interpreting it as a dig. It wasn't! The wagon lapping as fast as the E90 M3 just demonstrates where we came from and where we're going. If they had stated the wagon lapped faster than a car you guys dislike(d), you'd all be praising the wagon.

Here's another few BMWs to provide some balance;

330i 2:08.7

M340i touring 2:02.7

Z4 M40i 1:59.5

M2 C 1:57.6

M2 CS 1:55.8

M5 C 1:54.2

Looks to me that the M2 C is pretty impressive!

it's amazing how new "sports" cars, not only BMW but also other brands, these days keep comparing their performance, number, feel to an essentially 13 yr old E9X M3. It really shows how much respect this S65 motor, 0 torque, rod bearing failure, heavy, non turbo, non direct injection old engineering gets. lol

Remember ppl, E9X M3 came out the same yr as an iphone 3G...
Also remember to look for a good example & get one NOW...E9X with that S65 motor with ITB...truly will be a classic soon

What’s really vexing is that he didn’t even touch those shifting paddles much. Or at all.

I’m a dinosaur with my manual transmission...

Relax people. It's just a metric to measure against and a nod to the E90 M3's status/capabilities.
Uhm, he didn’t seem excited?

That’s coming from someone who definitely isn’t an S65 apologist - I thought it was a lazy revving engine and had a mediocre exhaust note for a V8 (at least in stock form and as compared to its American counterparts).

Personally, would rather have an E90 M3. But now if this was an E91 M3 Wagon conversion, then sign me up any day.
