Hello everyone, im debating my whole car on this forum right now,
I have a locked post June ecu, sad I know, I have been debating on paying the 2 grand for Visconti to ship my ecu over there and unlock it. I have waited a full year since getting my car and am now getting impatient. Do I

1. Wait a little longer for the dme to be obd unlock able

or

2. Ship it right now

I have a pure 850 turbo and an aa catted downpipe ready for this to go. What's y'alls take ?

Ik it's not the most solid evidence, but a forum member here claimed to have spoken over the phone to carbahn where they informed him they are about 3 months away from an unlock. Would hate to waste all that money just to have it unlocked shortly after so maybe wait a lil longer and if nothing happens after those 2-3 months pull the trigger.

That's what I'm thinking, imagine spending 2k and then 1 week later bootmod3 releases unlock for 600

Yeah that's exactly what I've been thinking. Even with like a jb4, I don't wanna spend like 500+ then all of a sudden I can just actually tune my car. I'm just gonna play the waiting game and enjoy the car stock and do little things like springs and spacers.

if everyone stopped sending ecus in and had some patience femto or whoever would be forced to release via obd to keep revenue stream for this ecu.

Idk femto seemed pretty set on keeping their unlock to themselves. There's another form titled "DME unlock" where femto was responding and explaining how they have no way to release it without someone else just copying the code and they said enough people use their option to where they don't really wanna release it.

Worse yet, imagine waiting (3) months, THEN shipping the ECU overseas, and THEN it is OBDII cracked.

Tough decisions.................

I am not the original forum member who relayed this information, however, I can also confirm I spoke with Carbahn regarding ordering tires and install... and asked about the DME unlock. The representative I spoke to confirm they hope to have this completed before the end of this year. No other details available yet.

If everyone stops buying locked BMWs, it will force them to only sell unlockable or even tuned ones to keep revenue stream...

BMW could still make money and sell plenty of cars if everyone who tuned their did not buy a BMW. Femto could not any make money if there was no one who wanted to tune and unlock their ecu. bad comparison.

I am not trying to dog you but you need to realize, the consumer has the power in aftermarket industry. we don't need to tune the car. and there is more than one option to tune the car.

There is only 1 company to buy a BMW from if you want a BMW.
