The ZF 8 such as in the Bentley Conti is still a unique to VAG product isn't it? Or what about the Roma/SF90 8DCL?

What about the Magna 8DCL900 since it allows for P3 electrification as mentioned earlier?

In the i8 Facebook Group you can read regularly about excited folks coming from /M, 911 or even McLaren and other exotics.
This forum here is simply not the ideal place to talk about that car

No way....They cant sell the M8s they already produce, why in the world would they make yet another version that would add a huge $$$ premium above the comp model??

If the thing is anything other than a small modern csl like the hommages of the past few years, it will be another sales disaster. Bmw cannot compete in the high end market, 911 gt cars own this.

The problem with the 8 series is that it is a 6 series moved up market, which means there is little reason to pay an extra $35k for it over an M5c. A CSL model with significant differences may actually sell.

The CSL hommage from a few years ago is even larger than the 8 series. It would have to be ~5% larger than the Supra/Z4 platform to really compete with the 911/AMG GT. I would love to see BMW put out an equitable car, but it may be tough without significant weight reduction and putting the weight in the right places which may be difficult with such a long motor

That's definitely a 6 cylinder, and it sounds like it's revving pretty high :O

I guess technically it -COULD- be a 3 or 12 cyl, but that sounds pretty identical to the B58, save for the higher revs

Pure speculations of course. It can be something standalone as you say but you would think we would have heard some rumors as we have about an M4 CSL.
My guess is more M8CSL with P58 with the M8GTE rear transaxle.

If it would be an M4CSL, why wouldn't they use an M4 chassis for development.

They finally make another CSL and then put it on the one of the larger and less engaging M cars

Stick this powertrain in an M2, cut the weight, pair it with a manual and/or dual clutch, and let the engineers have a field day rather then letting the bean counters control everything.

Would make more sense to pay hommage to the M1 than call it a 6-series which is really just a 5-series coupe and not something typically special. Pretty sure mid-engine theory has also been debunked at this point.

The 8-series has a shorter wheelbase and a wider track than the 4 for more agile handling. Go with a light high-power I6 with TERS technology, trim massively on the luxury pampering of the regular M8, a lighter rear transaxle and you can shed significant weight and have a rear weight bias which could make for a very engaging car to drive. The prospect of the G8X is leaving me a bit meh, but if BMW would make such a beast

While that sounds nice, I just don't have any confidence in BMW/M making anything that good, their track record as of late (aside from M2) isn't the best. Not to mention the 8er is already overpriced, a CSL will drive it into Porsche GT prices and we all know which car we'd rather have...

This. Doesn't L in CSL stand for "Light"?

Might be a bit of a stretch to use this adjective on an 8 series
