I tried everything possible during the week-end but the same message was coming up "..you will be notified when the upgrade can be started..". First I was suspecting my 12V battery not being fully charged but yesterday the update totally disappeared from both my car and the connect app. Now when I look for any new update it says that I have the latest one (3/2019) Is the same message still showing for you ? have you tried to call the Idrive hotline through your car ? |

Happened to me today. Been waiting days and it’s now disappeared. The app says no updates available. Just when you think BMW can’t get any worse

Has anybody managed to resolve this yet?
About 2 weeks ago I received a message on the Connected Drive app (Android) that there was a software update. I downloaded it to my phone and then uploaded it to the car. Everything seems to have uloaded fine (the app shows a green tick for cloud to phone, and for phone to car). Since then the message "You will be notified when the upgrade can be installed..." has been in car's Remote Software Upgrade page without giving any further details/options. I have tried rebooting the iDrive system (holding volume button in for 20 seconds) but after the reboot, the message was still there. Has anybody had any success? |

About 140 thousand G20/G28 owners, who were picked randomly or signed up for experiencing RSU before at dealership, received a 2019.70 SW OTA update in China. But as far as I know, a majority of them were stuck at 45% and had to go to a dealership afterward.

Finally got a response from BMW.
They say that the failure to complete the installation is a known issue but have no timescale for a resolution. Not exactly encouraging news. |

Any luck with the installation? Mine is "ready" since yesterday and after a couple of longer and shorter trips still no joy
If it hasn't started right away I guess I have the issue? Upgrading from 07/2019.55. |

My has remained the same - ready to proceed when notified - since I installed it 2 weeks ago. I guess we just have to wait for BMW to come back with a solution. |

I also had a notification on my ios CD app about an update from 11/2019.43 to 11/2019.70. I have downloaded the 276mb file and upload it to the car, but now I am stuck too at the screen telling me that I will be notified when the sw will be installed.

- the car battery has to be sufficiently charged (what does it mean sufficiently? Recently I drive only occasionally due to the virus) - the engine must be sufficiently cooled (all my attempts were just after a drive) It also says that the car must be in the GSM coverage area in case something goes wrong and it has to connect to BMW servers. So no underground parking etc. Can you confirm that you meet all those conditions? Rest of conditions are irrelevant (flat surface, parking brake etc) |

Well, looks like I've found what was the issue in my case
I suspected the battery charge level was a main factor. Due to virus I do not drive much, and mostly on short distances. Although engine starts absolutely fine, no warning messages etc, I thought that the battery may not be in a fully charged state. So I plugged my CTEK battery charger, and it looks I was right. After the charging process the car is finally ready to begin installation |

I just tried it again. Hooked car up to a charger (battery was already pretty full; only took <2 minutes to show fully charged). Tried again, but still the same as before (message telling me that I will be informed). tried rebooting iDrive and trying it again after a short drive - still no luck.

Do you have a decent charger? Mine is quite advanced, and among many features it can be set into AGM mode best suited for the battery type we have.
The installation prompt appeared the moment I turned the car on after the charge, I'm sure it wasn't a coincidence. |

Well, mine is an 8 step charger and the process looks like this:
So maybe, just maybe... I am wondering if the standard analog charger is capable to fully load the advanced AGM battery? Just a wild speculation. Of course there is still possibility that your issue is different. But in that case I would not hesitate to take the car to the dealer under warranty claim. Let them do the update in the traditional way. |
