Digital key access

For the m340i and other models I've seen people using a digital key card to unlock their cars. To activate it they place it on the wireless charging pad. The m340i I ordered doesn't have wireless charging so does that mean I won't be able to use this feature?

You still have an NFC pad in place of the wireless charging pad - specifically meant for using your Digital Key or Key Card.

Were you given the Digital Key card at the handover of the vehicle?

Because you also need the option "Comfort Access" for this function to work.

That doesn't mean you won't be able to use this feature, but don't get your hopes up, there are other reasons you won't be able to use it.

You need a very very specific Android phone for this feature to work. I think only a few models from different makers work... I can't even remember which ones they are.

Upcoming iPhones will enable this feature soon, but maybe not until iOS 14 or later.

Doesn't prevent you using the keycard provided with car.

on a different note, seems BMW is coming out with other graphics for the key cards in the future.

Found these while looking into the key cards.

Indeed, you have to have a Samsung 8 or newer because they have NFC. Fortunately, I have an S8 & gotta' say it's great, though I've had a few problems with it being associated with correct profile

Pretty sure all of these options are already out.

Exactly, they are in use already. Nr. 1 was the original, Nr. 2 and 3 came later.
But I wonder what is the logic behind that determines if you get a black M or white M, I have not figured out this yet.

If you have comfort access, can you keep the card in your pocket and still open the doors like the fob?

I'm not sure, I've only seen people tap the keycard onto the door handle to unlock. I think it only works with the key fob

I got a Samsung S20 and its incompatible, so the 'newer' part does not really apply

No, It’s NFC technology so you must touch the card to the door handle (and be precise to the sweet spot) to open and keep the card on the NFC/wireless charging tray to start the car.

If you get the m340, do you have to ask for that specific keycard? Or are they gonna give me the normal BMW one

Hmm well if you need comfort access to have the card, why not just leave the key in your pocket and touch the door with your finger. Rather than all the messing around with a card. I would rather pay for the activity band if it was available for the g20 than have a card.

It's just the convenience of only having to carry around the card vs your key chain.

I like the option for when I don't want to have to carry my key fob. Going to bars, concerts (especially with all the security screening now), etc.

I just tested my Digital Key Card in my wallet and I was able to unlock and lock my door and start my car too without taking it out. The card was in the outermost part of the leather bill fold part of my wallet. I faced that side to the door handle and NFC tray. It's nice to know I don't have to take it out each time if I want to use that as my key. I don't know if it made a difference but I had hardly any money in it. BMWFS takes it all!
