M340i 2020 iPhone Text Message issues

Took delivery M340i 4 days ago.

iPhone text messaging through idrive works only partially.

Receives text messages but has no identifier of who sent it. Also I cannot reply and cannot compose and send a text from idrive. BMW dealer states (wrongly I think) that Apple prevents this for security reasons. Which makes no sense since Apple Play allows text messaging sending and identifiable receiving. I cannot fix this.

Is this a software error?

Android phones do send and receive text messages perfectly through I drive on the 2019 330i, this also being idrive 7, which is also already installed in other BMW models.

Can anybody help with this issue?

Works perfectly well for me through Apple Car Play.

Just use CarPlay. It works great except for one or two occasions when I got into the car and it didn't connect.

I've had issues with wireless charging. It seems to trigger Apple Pay without charging the phone.

Dealer is right. Apple does not allow sending text messages via IDrive.

If you do not want to use CarPlay....You can use Siri eyes free to compose responses

You have to sync your contacts first if you want to see who sent the text messages.

How do I Sync the contacts in iDrive?. My phone connects through Bluetooth and downloads the contact list which I use for phone calls.

Do ALL contacts get Syncs or just the favorite phone numbers?

I have over 4K contacts and don't want them all on the car.
