Random Music Shuffle from USB Flash Drive
Hi all.
While driving, I listen to music from USB Flash Drive. I have a couple thousand of titles on the drive, and I know how to search for the title, or album, or folder that I want. And I know of the existence of the 'Shuffle' icon. My question is, can I instruct the car to randomly shuffle and play titles from EVERY folder and file and album on the drive? If so, kindly explain to me how. Thanks.................... Frank |

I assume the shuffle feature in ID7 is the same whether it’s playing from a USB drive or Spotify. If that’s true, does anyone know if there’s a limit to the number of tracks the shuffle feature can handle? I have a 12+ hour Spotify playlist of favourite tracks from my decades of listening to music, and when I play it with “shuffle” on, it does seem to play some of the tracks more frequently than others each time I start playing the playlist. I am wondering whether it can shuffle very large track counts.

I found the answer on the Spotify website........
Unfortunately, in large playlists (over 150 songs), the shuffle option prioritizes the songs that Spotify perceives you enjoy the most; this is why you might notice that some songs are repeated while listening on shuffle. |

OK (so they think 150 is a long list). Also if a song is "repeated", it sounds like the function isn't Shuffle but Random!?
I play from USB (iDrive 7 ver 7/2021) which behaves like this: Shuffle On (shuffled list 1) -> Off (default order) -> ON (shuffled list 2) shuffled list 2 is different from shuffled list 1 (except the song that is playing). Last edited by G22b58; 09-28-2024 at 08:37 AM.. |

I just tried with my USB drive music, and it does behave like you said - toggling the shuffle checkbox does produce new track lists.
It's a pity Spotify doesn't do the same. It's not actually random though, it repeats tracks it "thinks" you like. So the more it repeats a track, the more you'll hear it. Crazy! Last edited by sjb993; 09-28-2024 at 10:23 AM.. |
