Hi all,
I have a 2022 M340i and the latest update in my car is the 11/2021.61 version.

I see other members in the forums with newer versions active so that got me wondering: are there are certain vehicle idrive requirements needed to be compatible for the later patches?

Tbh you might as well just bring it to dealership so they can update it for you. I’ve tried vpns, factory resets, enabling all services, at one point I thought it was going to be updated when I bought remote start lol but nope. Tired different hotspots, static ip… well nada so you can wait and see if it arrives but just don’t hold your breath on it.

Let me try to answer directly.

First, BMW softwarw naming convention:
MM/YYYY.mm where
MM is month
YYYY is year
mm is minor update

BMW puts out updates in March, July & November. The current update goes to dealers while previous goes OTA. For example, dealers got 03/2023 in March, while 11/2022 went out Over The Air

Because the OTA update can be suppressed by various factors like fault codes, aging battery or just something in the BMW backend.
I know there are some versions that can´t be updated OTA and they need to be updated at the dealer.
After that you probably can get OTAs again.

Best way to get a free update at the dealer is to complain about a slow/freezing headunit and problems to connect your phone.
Normally the dealer has to "pay" (time) the update but when there´s a reason BMW will refund the costs to the dealer.
