Get a circular item that you can stick some 3m vhb tape on which is similar size to the button (I used an old touch up paint bottle), stick it to the original start button and just a quick pull and it will come out
Thanks a bunch! I will try that.

Well, I finally installed the Crystal stop button & iDrive controller knob.

I got both of these from Car Analysis through Amazon. The start stop button can be found at: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1; and iDrive controller knob can be found at: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Two tricks I picked up that may be worth your time when you install:
  • Start/Stop button. After putting on the sticky clay on the old button, wait a few minutes; then when you pull the clay, do so quickly and straight up.
  • iDrive controller knob. I didn't remove the ribbon cable which made reassembly a lot easier, BUT had to try several times to align the clear plastic ring

While it was a little more expensive going with Amazon, I got a full one year warranty and each item came with clear instructions, as well as having access to installation videos -- and, of course, it didn't take weeks to arrive.

Really like how both look

Hope that helps!

Warning to anyone trying to change out the iDrive controller, follow the previous posts recommendation and DO NOT DISCONNECT the cable. I wish i would've waited and read that post first.

it works quite well. i used a touch-up paint bottle as well since it's nearly exactly the size of the button. i didn't even use tape that's as strong - i used weaker double-sided 3M tape and only one corner popped out. i then used a guitar pick, wrapped in a eyeglass cloth to simply circle around the button and it popped right out!

Yea, I didn't have any paint bottles lying around so I just bought the 3M VHB Tape and it did the job.

Installed the starter button bought on eBay for half the cost of Amazon. It took 4 days to be delivered and packaging looks the same. Installation took less than 30 seconds with the putty stuff that was included.

I'm about to order the full set including the shifter knob from Car Analysis through Amazon. Anyone tried the shifter? I'm a little skeptical since this does not appear to be OEM.

Installation is pretty straightforward, however you'll need to remove and reinstall the ribbon (there's no way around that).

I've attached the installation guide for it.

Do you disconnect one battery or two? (I don't know if we have another battery other than the one in the trunk)

The "3 series G20 G28"?

The pictures show some stupid layout of the "orginal gear" while yours just shows the M.

akam.bakr ,

Memory serves me right, I ended with the same problem. It turns out that I inadvertently cramped down the ribbon cable. I subsequently, un-installed and went back to OEM iDrive controller

Hope that helps
