I have a loaner 330i right now with 07/2019.60... Have no idea what changes of course.

My car should be back again from the dealer today or tomorrow. They were going to update it again since it was already in for another issue.

When they updated yours, did your settings in iDrive get wiped?

I know when I had my update done a few months ago it just wiped my POI to show on the map back to everything. Other than that, the other settings remained as far as I'm concerned.

I've had zero CarPlay issues since upgrading to 7/2019.47 about three weeks ago

I'm still baffled that there are so many versions of iDrive 7 in the wild. We need OTA updates ASAP.

I got my car back yesterday and they didn't bother to update it. They had the car for two and a half weeks, they couldn't be bothered to update it after I played along again with updating the shop foreman on the CarPlay disconnects that still were occurring.

It's not our problem that BMW chose to turn all of us into beta testers. Wireless CarPlay is meh... I'd at least rather have the option of plugging it in until they can sort this shit out.

Sorry to hear of the problems. Did you ask for the reasoning on why they didn't update it even though you mentioned the issues that were occurring? As ridiculous as it sounds, I know I've read somewhere here that they try to avoid updating unless you have a valid reason needing it.

It costs them time, which is money, which noone is going to reimbursement if a cause cannot be found. So I can imagine why they are hesitant on updating for "just the sake of it". Not in customers best interest imo..

Had a week now with 7/2019.55 and can report that Apple Carplay (iOS 13.1.2) is connecting significantly quicker 95% of the time. Once in awhile it took longer, probably because phone is still lingering on the WiFi whilst downloading something. There are fewer drop outs (around toll points), but reconnect quickly.

Most of the settings remained with the car upgrading from 3/2019.45 to 7/2019.55. The only things I've noticed are my seat memory settings and the adaptive cruise defaulted back to 3 bar distance.

Remote 3D view is a bit of a hit and miss (maybe due to data reception of where I normally park?) But the lock/unlock functions seem to work better.

True... I'd think the dealer would do whatever they can to get the issue resolve for the customer and not ignore it. With all the iDrive 7 issues they should update it as standard procedure when any car comes in for service and not worry about reimbursements since it would be in their best interest. Word spreads quick when something is bad.

A lot of these issues wouldn't exist if the OTA update functionality worked as intended.

Is there a timeframe when this is supposed to be working to allow OTA updates?

I'm in the UK and had an email from BMW that OTA should be functional by December. I'm not holding my breath

Exciting, if true, though still 2 months off.

Unsure if the above post can be relied upon. Nothing to do with the user, as much as BMW has said "X should be released by Y", and then it's not.

It's interesting BMW doesn't allow for updates via plugging your phone or external USB, which contain the updated software, into the vehicle's USB port. There must be something inherent to how iDrive 7 handles the update process that is preventing them from letting users install it.

Any chance we can see the email? I'm so curious who and why they would even say this without a newsletter or update on their website to let others know. It's such a non commitment..

If BMW continues to withhold over-the-air updates from its customers, at what point in time would this be considered false advertising? Not having to beg an belligerent dealer to get software updates was a factor in my decision to purchase a G20.

Here’s what I received

Thanks for getting in touch about updating the software on your iDrive.

The remote software update will inform you on your phone and iDrive in the car when it’s ready to install.

The Spotify update will be made available to all compatible cars by the end of this year – Please click here for a video showing how to complete OTA software updates.

If you are not receiving these updates please visit your preferred retailer for assistance.

Please note: This update has to be performed OTA and cannot be downloaded onto USB.

I hope this helps to clarify the situation – Please get back in touch if you need further assistance.

Thanks so much for sending us this!

Hmm let's parse this a bit, what does "All compatible cars" mean? If you have iDrive 7 wouldn't you be compatible enough to have Spotify?

Also the person didn't specifically say "OTA" updates would be available at the end of this year, they said the Spotify update will be made available for update at the end of the year.

And then they go on to suggest that if you are not receiving these updates to see the dealer. So it's just a vicious circle and giving you/us the runaround...

They ultimately didn't clarify anything. May I ask what was the link they provided to show how to complete OTA software updates?
