So my car has downloaded Remote Software Update 7/2020.80, and is awaiting installation. I read some of the notes about the update, and they make it sound like somewhat a non-event, at least for me. As it is, I'm satisfied with how the car and the I Drive system operate. I use Apple Car Play and it works perfectly. I don't use Maps.

So, should I update? Has anyone had a bad experience with this update, or lost functionality of something important? If so, was the fix easy or did you need help from the dealer?

I’m not much of a computer coder, but aren’t you supposed to check for bugs prior to rollout? If a car had features, they should be able to restore them.

Dealer installation. While I don't know of true, dealer says it is better to them install the update . They tell me that they have seen more software errors with OTA's. I can't tell if that is correct but from posts on here, that may be the case. I have no issues with HUD sport mode before or after update. However the surround camera is a touch off in front of car but not the sensors. I have an check up and oil change due in 2000 miles I will have checked then.

Weird. Yeah I specifically asked and BMW now sends you a video walk through of what they do to your car while it's in the shop and the tech specially said "it's not available for your vehicle yet" as well as the follow up call they said the update doesn't support my 2020 330i. Oy ve.

Your tech said it wasn't available for your car. My tech didn't even bother to check and said there's no update and I have to live with it. My car also refuses to get any OTA updates and says it's already up to date (it's on 07.2019.38!)

I'm on 07.2019 as well. From what I've read, we are not missing much unless you want android auto.

I wonder what their criteria for rolling out these updates are considering it takes months to get to everyone.

I'm still on 11/2019.70 (which I received much later than others too) and car/app shows no updates. Dealer also said no updates available for my car.

My M340i has just downloaded and installed the 07/2020 update. My comments are:

1) I now hate the fact that seemingly the only way to enter Sat Nav addresses is via voice input. What if you’re abroad and can’t pronounce some or all of the address??

2) Apple CarPlay is now extremely sluggish and black screens appear for ages before the selection appears (e.g. Phone or Settings etc). Spotify fails to load at all although I can use Spotify via Media (I am not “techie”, does this connect via the car’s WiFi rather than via my iPhone X’s CarPlay?)

3) As an aside, does anyone else find the wretched Driver Attentiveness setting keeps reverting to “Standard” when I turn the car back on after I’ve previous set it to “Off” (like I do with all the other so called nanny state safety stuff!).

4) Lastly, after the software update, I am STILL getting the very annoying notification that my iPod Touch is connected via USBC. I would have thought BMW would have corrected this error in the update!

Any thoughts or advice especially regarding the Sat Nav address input and sluggish CarPlay.

Thanks for the feedback. I can tell you that
Spotify via Media is an App native to your BMW, and it works as you guessed, through the car's WiFI. In my car, the native Spotify works well.

I decided not to do the remote upgrade. Next time I'm in for service I will ask about it. I'm in no hurry.

Wow why only 7/2020. I got 11/2020.45 about 2 months ago. But that was at the dealer. Should be what they have at the dealer for the OTA

Seems to me, at least, when dealers are getting the next version, OTA is sending out the last here in US -- got 7/2020 in mid November; so will probably get 11/2020 in March

Is anyone else seeing “updated” categories on the ConnectedDrive portal? It looks like there’s some changes going on, such as renaming some old categories. Particularly, one called “SMARTPHONE INTEGRATION FOR APPLE CARPLAY AND ANDROID AUTO” and another “DIGITAL KEY - ONLY AVAILABLE UNTIL 6/30/2021!”

Hopefully, this means there’s some updates coming to the store!

Installed OTA 7/2020.54 in my M340i and was hoping for Android Auto. The download to my phone worked fine and I installed the software. The I-Drive rebooted and my software version reported 7/2020.54 but no Android Auto. :-(

It should be in the Apps menu but I have only CarPlay installed. I contacted my dealer and when they checked my car status in BMW:s system it says that my car still have the old software version 3/2020 installed so that was why I did't get the Android Auto option to my car.
Having an appointment with my dealer next week who will do a new full software update on my car. Fingers crossed that it work.

It might take a few days for it to show. When the dealer updated me to 7/2020 I had the same issue and doing everything, reconnecting my phone, resetting iDrive, power cycling iDrive, updating apps didn't do anything but around a week later it showed up. I think BMW's servers only get the info that your car is on a new version after a certain period of time and once they do you car will pull down Android Auto. If the dealer is saying your car is showing 3/2020 this looks like the case.

My first update was about 10 month ago to 03/2020.40, hated the fact that nothing worked and all apps except 2 disappear from the menu, until I have done factory reset to activate upgrades.
Than upgrades worked fine, but reset wiped out the music collection from hard drive and all personal setting.
Now I have done bunch of coding on the car and next soft upgrade will wipe all that again.

in short unless there is an upgrade adding about 100 HP I'm not wasting my time just to get better personal assistant.
