2023 M340i on MPE just updated to 03/2024.40.

My findings:

• Exhaust note reduced. Previously it sounded “angrier” than before. Now it’s much softer, less burbles.
• Cold start is now more subtle. No more loud angry notes. Again I’m on MPE. It sounds back to stock lol.
• Drive is much less aggressive in Sport+. It used to be really responsive and sort of urging the driver to go quicker. Now the upshifts and downshifts are also less promininet. The pull is more linear.

Overall: The drive is less sporty, and it’s going for a more “comfort” feel. I personally am not a fan of this but I’m sure some might prefer the more refined drive.

exhaust sound still loud and aggressive as hell on start, burbles still there. Then again I have a AWE aftermarket exhaust

messed up all my coding had to recode everything again via Bimmercode

I don’t have MPE but I haven’t noticed any of these things. Curious if anyone else noticed it?

It expired and the app downloaded it again and it is stuck still. I haven't had the chance to bring it into BMW. I thinking about finding a power supply to put on the battery to see if that will help force the update.

I don't have MPE either, but I don't feel like any of the driving dynamics or sounds have changed.

I should also add that I do not have Iconic Sound turned on.
Previously even with it off, the MPE note was just right. Not obnoxiously loud, but not as quiet as it is right now.

As for driving dynamics, I did a hill climb today at Sport+ just to double check, and just as expected, it’s now constantly putting me in gear 4 and 5.

What’s annoying is it stays there even with speed drops, making any sudden pulls respond slower.

Usually when I drop speed, the gears drop to 3 very quickly and at anytime when you press the pedal, it just goes.

Now, it either stays in gear 4, or drops from 5 to 4 and tries to pull from 4 at a lower RPM.

If that makes any sense….

Probably an odd question but I haven't updated my software since I got my car, currently on 03/2021.55. Is it actually worth updating software? Did they bring actual fixes that were relevant such as improvements to DAP? Everything runs without bugs, remote options such as unlock, start, etc, so was curious if updating was even worth it? I get map updates with no issues, I don't want to update if no significant improvements were introduced to convenience or DAP performance as I would need to redo bimmercode and updates may introduce additional bugs if anything.

If you are on 3 year old software, absolutely, especially for improvements to smart phone connectivity.

Idrive 7 stopped getting meaningful work since 11/2022 release.
Idrive 8 stopped getting meaning work since 11/2023 release ( by this I mean new features, they still get bug fixes and compatibility with newer ecu variants )

I'm also into "if it ain't broke .." but I did the update from 3/2021 tp 7/2021 in my european M440i, and that fixed the only bug I had no work-around for:
When, in the rare occasion, the park assist finds a spot for parallel parking that is deep enough that the driver has to choose, the selection was not possible with the iDrive controller in 3/2021 but fixed in 7/2021.
(I don't have the full DAP and do not use AA or CP.) I think it also added the possibility to turn off Lane Keep assist, which on some narrow roads is too nervous, but maybe it was there also in 3/2021.
I don't know if the newer versions are all for the good or not.
I have the Engine Sound Menu from factory and don't want to loose that.

There have been several DAP enhancements over the years with OTA. I hated how aggressive it was back in 2019 with the 330i; now it’s buttery smooth. Same thing on th M340i. Also, there seems to be a little more leeway with where your eyes wander when using Traffic Jam Assistant before the warnings buzz.

So when you engage DAP you get the stuff in the HUD showing the speed that its set at, and the following distance configured etc.

On 03/2024, I seem to be stuck with the tachometer enabled at all times in sport mode, regardless of what "additional displays" is set to in the hud settings in idrive.

How do I know whether I’m stuck or still within the OTA schedule as apparently a lot of people are/have been on 2024 versions?

You do appear to be out of sync.

Latest RSU was 03/2024 (sub version .40 in my case).

Apparently any complaint to the Dealer implying something like problems with CarPlay / AndroidAuto - or intermittent loss of Sat Nav Real Time Traffic Information - will result in a free software upgrade.

Just saying your car is not up to date will not work - they will try to charge you for the upgrade.
