I think you guys are tripping. While a few people might opt for an expensive new front bumper swap, the vast majority are going to buy this car and keep it as is. Show me one example of another car in which a significant margin of the buyers modified it to change the design significantly? I would put my money on its < 1 percent of the general pop and 1-5 percent of enthusiasts opt for body kits or even front bumper swaps. Show me an Audi or other car design that is the antithesis. Or do you really think this car is going to be a trendsetter in that regard? Not buying it.

I'm not a huge fan of this design, but I go short of betting against BMW sales, and well short of expecting those that buy it will immediately put it under the expensive surgical knife

Acura did with their beak of a front grille. (2009). Mind you it was a much easier change but this was one that was performed pretty often. I will go on to mention, Acura has been soul searching to bring sales back ever since the 04-08 TL.

I wholeheartedly agree that Acura made a design flop with the beak, and it hurt sales. The prior TL design was quite good. I am not saying bmw is bulletproof but I dont think this design will spur significant aftermarket plastic surgery.

It might not but I could definitely see reduced sales drive them back to the drawing board.

The tail lamps looks like they're 5 feet off the ground, why is the rear end so tall? Way too much going on with the front aero design in the lower bumper area, not to mention the GRILLE

Have you noticed how bold and distinctive the grille is? BMW wants you to know it is bold. And distinctive. And dynamic.

Adrian, please step down or move on. These designs are neither wanted nor liked.

That's going to have to be something that happens next generation. BMW can shorten the life cycle but there is a zero percent chance it changes during this generations lifecycle. Doing all the R&D, getting all the safety and all the other regulation testing done isn't cheap.

People will buy this car because 1.) It's a BMW and 2.) The grille, even though it's one only a mother could love. I honestly just don't think it looks good and the more I see it, the uglier I think it's getting. I would have LOVED a 4 series with an 8 series grille. M440i xDrive would have had my name all over it the day I could order.

I have a feeling this is going to grow on people.

It just may be something they will chalk up an L for. I'm sure if it flops bad enough, they'll figure something out. I just hope it's not as bad as we think.

To be honest, I don't think it'll flop. If anything, it's going to draw in a new crowd. It may be off putting to current owners and the members of this forum that make up all of ~5% of the market but I think it'll catch people's eyes because it really is something different.

We'll see how it goes.

If the M performance Parts will include a new front bumper with an elegant and decent grille, I will be interested.

Otherwise screw this one, it really looks like shit!

I really hope they have a backup plan. I would bet some guy at bmw who hates this design has like a plan B alternate front fascia for when this sells horribly and the original designer gets fired.
