So I purchase a new Escort Redline 360C RD, ordered it with the 12V cigarette style SmartCord Power Adapter.

Typically like to use these over hardwire since I like my RD mounted near bottom of windshield, don't want the hassle of HW, and it makes for quik n EZ swap between cars.

Come to find that the RD power plug gets no power from the center console 12V power port by cupholders Yet when I try in my 2015 435 it worx fine just like my other Passport Max RD, but neither will work in the 22 M440i

At 1st I was thinking bad fuse, but upon inspection of the port the internals appear slightly different in the 440 than the 435 - mostly down @ the bottom where it appears to neck down smaller than main bore = BMW decided to change out the design of their power ports in the newer cars & the cigarette style adapters that have been the same & worked in ANY car since the beginning of time will no longer push all the way in to make contact

All I can say BMW is WTF?

After a call to Escort the tech confirms the above. I ask if I can use the USB port that is directly in front of the power port, but see no USB power cable available?

Answer is not directly, BUT you can pick up a USB A Male to 12V Car Cigarette Lighter Socket Female Converter Cable (8W Max) for $6.59 that they recommend from Amazon to do the trick

So for any of you running into the same situation, that cable would be a quik/cheap solution (at least for Escort RD as IDK power draw of other makes)

In the meantime, I'm gonna order an OEM power port that is for a 2015 435 & see if I can't simply swap it into the M440, hoping for PnP as they look exactly the same on exterior - just different interior

It’s a common problem. Take it to the dealer and they will swap it out under warranty. They have a new version of the power port that works fine.

If you search this site you will find many threads on it. Not sure when they switched over to the new design in production. There is a BMW TSb on this issue you can search for.
