Funny my wife wanted a Tesla even though I was not very excited of the interior and looks.
I would probably not buy another Tesla as car number 2, my plan is to get a used G20 by end of the year when prices will drop on the used market.

Get a 1 year old or newer CPO G20 with all BMW warranties and you'll be a happy camper.

Welcome back home.

Also the no speedo or HUD was the deciding factor.
I made the right choice in the end anyway, drove 3500km in my G20 330e and about 3000 of that in electric only anyway
I have not done any research into this, but, how do you tell the speed? is it on the center console? that seems not very intuitive.

Would be nice if they incorporated something like HUD.

The digital speedometer is in the upper corner of the center display closest to the driver.

I was a bit skeptical of not having an instrument dash in front of driver but you get quickly used to. I can see the speed just fine without taking my eyes from the road. A head up display would be nice but not a must have.

I'm really used to HUD these days especially Nav and speed, I'm sure I can get used to the other way but just feel so "natural"

Yep, I had pretty much the same experience late 2018 and early 2019. Sad to see the problems are still there.

The car is still fantastic though.

Interesting thread to read through. I'm kinda sorta kicking around getting a Model 3 as a second car. Pretty funny to see some of the posts from a couple years ago saying Tesla might not be around for much longer and now it's worth like $100billion lol. That kind of thinking probably got BMW's last CEO canned. The one I checked out recently seemed to be of high quality. Didn't notice the hollow feeling doors/trunk or gigantic panel gaps. Maybe the quality and consistency has improved over the past year or two. I'd hope so anyway.

Might as well get the 3 because in 10 years a majority of cars are gonna be "teslas"

Then again, do many folks buy BMW's or Tesla's? I'd wager the majority lease. I agree the future is electric, but considering an average lease cycle, I don't think we'll be mostly electric in 3 years. 10? Maybe.

I'd wager most people buy Teslas since they lease like crap.

Yeah, the leases are terrible. No option to buy at the end either. The leases are not heavily subsidized like how BMW does them. I was able to back into the figures and they were not using a heavily discounted MF.

Honestly, I don't believe BMW subsidizes their current lease deals as much as they used to in the past.

100% agree here. I had the same feeling when I started driving ours. Besides, who needs a HUD when the car is driving itself? Hahah

Really? Because the 60% residuals, $4500 in incentives, and 14% off MSRP deals being posted in the Deals subforum say otherwise. This is more heavily subsidized today than it was in 2015 when I leased my original F80, even beating the deal I got by doing Euro delivery.

G21 is cheaper, compared to Model 3 by around AUD20k. At the same time, the BMW (being ICE) will cost more to run.

hmmmm

I had the same dilemma here in Australia and even put a deposit on a Model 3 performance but when I saw the new G21 in the flesh I knew I had to continue the run that had extended from E91 to F31 and now G21. Make no mistake the Tesla Model 3 was mightily impressive (even in standard range plus guise) but I just couldn’t live without a head up display and knew n my heart of hearts I preferred the wagon shape and practicality.

I went for a launch edition G21 in dravit grey. It moves the game on considerably in all respects from the F31.

My fascination for electric vehicles will be satisfied soon, possibly in the form of the Model Y for my wife when it arrives here.

Insurance premiums for Model 3s are Also astronomical here in Australia (2.5 times higher than for the BMW).

I'm paying $50 less per month/$1,500 less out the door for my G20 330i lease as compared to my 2014 F30 328i. (similar MSRP's) I can't remember exactly but i'm pretty sure my payment is also way lower than my E90 330i.

Yeah, the Model 3 is not cheap to insure. The real irony is its actually cheaper to insure than the i3! That being said, its about the same cost to insure as my F80.

Why is the i3 so expensive to insure?

A full CFRP chassis/frame that is not easily repairable in an accident is probably the main reason. You have to bring it to a BMW certified i3/i8 shop to get any sort of bodywork done. This is the same with Tesla except for the CFRP chassis.

Here is a list of supercars and 2 BMWs that have a full CF chassis: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...monocoque_cars

I for one won’t be trading that sweet b58 straight 6 for an electric motor and numb steering anytime soon. But then again I absolutely love my air cooled Porsche to death. There is so much more to a special drive than flat out speed. I wouldn’t trade my 95 993 for a brand new 911. Honestly you can’t compare the experience.

The Tesla 3 is soulless transportation. Nothing more
