Throw one into corner and M 340 shines - it is more nimble , more responsive, not as heavy and happy to cruise at 80-90 MPH. |

I drove the M5C, M850i, M340i, X3M and M2 back to back at the M Town Event. The M2 was the most fun and it wasn't even the Competition.

My only consolation at this point was that I had to drive 3 hours in a Chrysler 300 After that ordeal I was happy to jump back into my car!!

That M5 is big and heavy and I felt it's size AND weight when I drove it. It has horsepower and torque that you can't use on the street.
In a test drive situation everyone loves to get on the gas and feel the rush. The truth is in everyday drive situations you don't have anyplace to unleash that beast. Trust me I get it... the M5 is a beautiful car, but too big to be a sports car for sure. Consider the price... $125,000 with options. You are paying a HUGE premium for 600 pointless horsepower. You can drive a 340 and have a wheelbarrow of Benjamins left over to go buy something else to drive as a toy. If you *must* have the new M5... wait 3 years. Historically their value drops like a rock and you will be able to get into a very nice preowned example for the cost of your 340. Be smart with your money. just drive a small car with less than 100hp for a hour :-)
when you get back to your m340i, everything should be ok aggain but seriously, the m5 is two levels obove the m340i. so it is no surprice that the car impressed you that much. but price-performance ratio goes to the m340i. in germany the retail price for my m340i configuration was 73.000€ similar configurtion of a m5 competition makes nearly 128.000€ if you remember the price difference it should be even more easy to have fun aggain with the g20 :-) |

I struggle with the same, I love my m340i and Hellcat Charger but I would like to mold them into the same car I could use all the time.

The US Constitution prohibition on cruel and unusual punishment should have protected you from having to drive a Chrysler 300. Ugh.

But it served a valuable purpose in this case.

I did the same thing at one of the M driving events last summer. I actually had a hard time loving the M5 simply because I knew I couldn't have one! It's just so HEAVY around a corner compared to a 3, but in a straight line I was hanging on for dear life. It was actually the M2 Comp that stole the show for me there!

is it really that much different? The only G30 i've driven is a 530e, at one of those ultimate drive events, but on an auto cross course it felt terrible because it was so big. I'd guess an m5 on that kind of course would feel pretty large too or does it somehow hide it with some M magic.

Use the extra savings and visit Germany and rent a sportscar. Then drive on autobahn no speed limit. I reached 165 mph. That M5 will be forgotten.
